Any Suggestions For a Good Book?

so ive got surgery coming up next week on my wrist from a car accident back in january...pretty much i was in a cast and they said it would be fine, now its not set where they want it to be so they have to re-break and set it as well as repair a ligament or something...anyways, back to the topic, i will be out for 8-10 weeks recovery and figured i would read a few books since i will have a lot of down time...just seeing if anyone knew of some good books i should check out (im almost 24 and a guy, so no suggestions for nicholas sparks or anything absurd like that) also, if anyone knows of any good movies streaming on Netflix that would work too, but i think ive seen everything worth seeing on there...thanks in advance guys

I am currently reading Stephanie Meyers "The Host". She is the person who did the twilight series but this has no relationship to those. I guess we call this sci fi.

I can give you a list of a dozen or so you might like and I will send them to you.

I can suggest thousands of books, but have no idea what your tastes are (nor do I have any familiarity with the Collected Works of Nicholas Sparks, to know what to avoid...)
A couple possibilities: "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell" by Susanna Clarke. Long, elaborate, written very straight-faced and matter-of-fact, detailing an England during the Napoleonic Wars in which magic, though rare, exists, and the two magicians who are in charge of English magic. Much more complex than I can describe.
Terry Prachett's entire "Discworld" series. Fantasy (though, again, rather matter-of-fact about it). Funny, with very good characterization and likable characters.
"Collected Fictions" (or, if you prefer, "Selected Nonfictions") by Jorge Luis Borges. Short stories (or essays) written over several decades by one of Argentina's great authors. The short stories often have something somewhat uncanny about them.
Most of the books by Bill Bryson (nonfiction); I particularly like "In a Sunburned Country" (about Australia), "I'm a Stranger Here Myself" (short pieces about America, when he moved back after 20 years in Britain), and his books about the English language, "Made in America" and "Mother Tongue".
If any of these grab you, I could mention plenty more. If they don't, we probably don't have the same tastes in books.
Either way, best of luck on the surgery and recovery. I broke my hip this winter, so I know a little of how that goes.

thanks for the suggestions and for the wishes on my surgery...i had surgery on my collarbone a few months back from the same accident and got a plate and 6 screws, so hopefully this one will be about of the same caliber with the pain and recovery
