A friend and breeder told me when his reptiles get any respiratory infection aside from oral or intravenous he adds some of the medication to a ultrasonic humidifier so they can breath the meds in where its needed. He swears by it saying it dramatically cut down on recovery time.

Anyone try this?

As far as i know, it can break your ultrasonic humidifier's plate.
I know that on the manual (i have vicks), it specifically said not to put any kind of medicine (such as menthol or cold med) in the machine.

Also, I don't like the idea of inhaling antibiotics in the air. I;m not sure if it;s effective either.

I do nebulization with some of my patients, mostly cats. The nice thing about using it with some of the drugs is that it is not systemic (for the most part) and can be given a little more often and potentially at a higher concentration.

Most of the drugs though are not tested this way, so MIC (mean inhibitory concentration- the amount needed to kill certain bacteria) is not known, so the vet is guessing based on his/her experience with it. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME WITHOUT VETERINARY GUIDANCE.
