Are Daddy Long Legs okay for Gizmo

The other day while Gizmo was free-ranging in his indoor room, he spotted a Daddy Long Legs. It's a spider with a tiny body and very long legs. I have heard that they have an extremely potent venom - but their size makes it virtually harmless to humans.

Gizmo was very excited to eat it but I killed it before he had a chance.

My question - Would it have been okay to let Gizmo eat this spider, or did I do the right thing by killing it.

I would keep him away from anything venomous . May be ok but who wants to find out.

those freakin spiders creep me out.....only if i could find a girl with legs that long...lol

I have been feeding my chams these spiders for a couple of months now without any ill effects. It is nice change of pace for the chams when they see these guys running around the cage.

Hope that helps

There it is someone found out. :) Thanks OPI

i think the venomous one you're thinking of is a crane fly, it has wings, daddy long legs are just spiders but i don't know if they have any venom!

i knew that was coming, thanks for the nightmares tonight macro.
Funny, I always thought daddy longlegses (daddies longlegs?) were cute - as arachnids go.

Thaxter ate a spider (not a longlegs) last summer before I could interfere, and suffered no ill effects. He seems to ignore the plentiful bees in our yard, for which I am thankful.

from what i undesrtand about daddy long legs, yes they are venemous but.. they can't manage to penetrate flesh cause their fangs are so small.

but other animals eat them, cats and such . so i would assume what doesn't kill a cat well maybe not the safest assumption..

They had a spot on Mythbusters about that exact same thing, and it IS a myth!

true daddylonglegs are found in dark caves, basements and atics - they're spiders.

What most people in the US call daddylonglegs aren't even spiders. olipodae or something... harvestman is the "proper" name.
