How beautiful! It is better to see what they look like as adults all colored up. WOW.

Not to hijack your thread Alex but, here are some much better pics I took of your thamnobates. This is one of your males a few days before I shipped him to you:) ANDDD all of you keep saying how tiny they are over and over everyone on here is gonna think they stay that way and thats just how they are. They do get much bigger as adults. Enough with the tiny talk!!! LOL

It is! There is a whole row of tubercles right there.. My phone does not take very good pics so its hard to see. Im working on getting a new camera body right now so hopefully i can get some better shots in the not to distant future
.....you lucky ducks... I am extremely jealous..
Lol thanks :) With some luck, we will have a few clutches sometime next year

I will keep my fingers crossed. These guys are my dream but nearly impossible to get a hold of in the states. I guess I will just sit back and watch you guys have your fun with them for a while >:|.

Sadly, I lost one of my males recently... Im not sure of the exact cause of death, I did find some mouth rot though. I never noticed it in any of his previous health checks so im kinda lost there. He lost appetite almost completely a few days before he passed, as well as staying fairly low in his enclosure. When I walked in the room I found him digging himself down into the dirt, immediately i pulled him out to see what possibly happened and within minutes he was gone.. I looked him over several times during this time period and only found the small area of mouth rot. Now theres no room for error, health checks have now gone to twice a week to hopefully prevent this from happening again.
I did manage to get some pics of the remaining trio at least there is something good to this post...
First is female one, near impossible to get a good pic of her shes always on the move

Thanks for sharing this info, even tho its not good it helps us recognize things that may go wrong and possibly why. I commend you for that because most members will not share their failures.
The cage looks to me like it needs WAY more foliage in it. Where they come from is very dense foliage, not sparse vegetation like the pics show. Maybe that could be a reason? not sure.

You use organic soil right? Its weird that he was digging in the dirt, that sounds like he was trying to cool off or something.

Or warm up, they reportedly seek out small abandoned holes, or burrows in the ground to protect themselves from the winter cold.

Im really sorry to hear about you losing him Alex. :(

That just really sucks man.

No fear though, we still have 2 males, and 4 females. ;)

What watt/type bulbs are you using for basking?
What kind of temperature and RH ranges have they been at?

I agree that they may like some dense foliage in there, but not sure if/how that may have been a contributing factor to your guy passing.

I know mine spend a ton of time buried deep in the dense grass/bushes.

They really seem at home there. :)

I have never seen my male show yellows as bright as yours!

Mine is getting more of an ugly orangish tone all over.

"seek out" but what about digging them on their own? Maybe thats completely different and he could have been trying to cool down. Its summer time here not winter lol. Or maybe he didnt feel secure in that cage with hardly any plants or leaves..Just a thought;)

Yeah just organic soil, all the plants were cleaned multiple times before planting. It was not that hot in there, the room itself never touches 80°

Standard 75w house bulb

Daytime temps range from 73-79, dropping down to 60-65 after dark.

RH runs from 15-60% but never stays >50% for more than a hour or two each day.

Cages should be re- planted by the end of the week.

He never has shown any signs of heat stress nor have the others at these temperatures.
