Meet Ndnd

Really i had never thought about her being pregnant. Hmmmm!

Here she was about two days ago.

And here she is guess showing off.

General questions

Ok so the pic of this post shows Ndnd hanging from the top of the cage under the light. Well she first did that yesterday around 7:30pm and i noticed she did the same thing again at the same time. The UVB bulb doesnt put out much heat at least not enough to burn her but is this normal? I pesonally think shes showing off but i could be wrong. Is thus something i should try to stop?

My second question is about feeders. I know your not supposed to feed them anything bigger than the space between her eyes but she likes the bigger crickets more than the littler. In fact if i put smaller crickets in there she will wait ( and all day ) til shes sure i wont put something bigger in her hab. Where as i put a bigger cricket in there and its gone with in the hour. I ask because she eats at night with the smaller ones and i know your supposed to feed them in the morning or afternoon for proper digesting. Also she is averaging 3 a day. I would try more but like i said they will just stay in there till she does eat them.

Ok last thing. The care sheets say that females once gravid dedicate thier lives to giving birth which expells their lil bodies quicker meaning half the life of a male. Is that to say that if you dont try to breed them that will live longer?

So no opinions on my last post? Oh well.

Ok so im in my second week with Ndnd. Shes doing fine still. Yay!!! But i had to make a big change in my Hab. The pothos plants that i was using to start with were all rotting and the leaves coming off it 10 a day, which i know is bad to have in your hab. So i removed them and for fear if her health and went and bought 8 strings of 4 foot plastic vine with plastic not silk leaves. I really liked the idea of a living plant to add O2 but thats just not possible at this time. And let me tell you she did not like me in there ripping her plants out and fastening her new vines at all but perked up and did some exploring when i was done. I think shes happy now and it looks better.

Had a couple silly scares too. I had put a medium cricket in Her cage and walked away cause she gets nervous and came back 30 minutes later to mist and noticed a cricket leg on her mouth flap and i honestly thought the cricket had punctured through her. I chased her around and finally touched the leg and made it fall off. Silly me it was just hanging.

The second scare was a light fixture falling off the cage that is fixed better now but it scared us both. Lol!!!

Day two with out eating.

Well im starting to get nervous again. For two days now she has been real thirsty to the point of drinking as a spray. And for the second day in a row she hasnt eaten. Still exreting urates and they are wet but im used to her skipping a day woth out food but not two. Is this normal?

I don't get too nervous about a day or two of missing food- With my female Jackson I used to feed her a wax worm if she didn't eat for a day or two- she would eat them when she would ignore crickets-and then I would know it was just her way of saying she wanted something different. My Jackson is more likely to get board by the same thing every day than my other two- she will let a cricket walk right by her and then get excited by something different.
That being said if you have a vet that will do a fecal without seeing her I would consider getting one done. I don't think it's worth stressing her out for a couple of days of not eating if you can get one done without the actual visit. My vet will not treat without the visit but I can drop off a fecal sample for testing at any time. I would also try and see if something new gets her more excited - I wouldn't give her too many wax worms if she eats them they aren't very good for her and if she is expecting your better off with calci worms, silks and horns as a change up- but they are usually easy to come by and you don't have to wait to see if she's just being a crank or if it's something more serious.

She ended up going three whole days. On the third night I removed all food items before lights out and when i woke up i allowed her the usual 45 to warm and then put one medium cricket in. Within minutes it was gone. So i gave her two more. I then fed her two today. I think she was being picky. Oh and no more wax worms. Im gonna get something different this month. Shes also starting to show some brighter color. Idk if thats age or getting used to new enviroment but cant wait to see more than black and brown.

I handled her the other day for the first time. She didnt seem to mind much though i only held her for a moment to inspect her. She kept her eyes closed though. My big human head prolly freaks hers out. I know if i was that small i eould be freaked. Ok well thanks guys.

I'm glad she's eating again- sometimes it a just a simple thing like she's board with her food or her temps have to be changed a little-

Major win today

Well after a month of raising my cham i had a major win today. She drank from the drip! YAY!!! Im so excited she finnally learned what running water is. I have been having to use the spray bottle waiting for her to be in a good spot so i could drizzle water to get her drink which i hated doing and she hated it as well.

Very picky eater

Well i am starting to get her schedule down with eating. She usually eats two to three days in a row and then nothing. This past time she waited four whole days. I put a fresh cricket in each day and take it out at bedtime trying to encourage eating but thats a laugh. I finally got her to eat tonight. I noticed she was eyeing a small moth hanging near the UVB so i caught it and offered it to her. She was gonna eat it out of my hands but i let it go at the last minute afraid it would hurt her if i was holding it to tight. She ended up eating two more immediately upon them entering the cage. hmmm need a variety of bugs. Im afraid she will starve herself if i keep trying to feed her crickets.

Any suggestions on feeding? What kinda bugs are easy to obtain and keep that i can vary her diet with?

Easy to obtain is somewhat relative- I found the same problems when my Jackson was smaller - I added some blue bottle flies from mantisplace.com- shipping is cheap-
You can get 100 pupae for 15.00- I break them down into 5 or 6 small deli cups with a bottle cap full of "fly food in each" One goes on top of the cage one goes at room temp and the rest go in the outside fridge- kept in the fridge the hatch rate goes down quite a bit as time goes on but they last about a month.
Usually calci worms are easy to get at a pet store- with one Jackson your biggest problem is they don't eat as much and the food gets too big when she's as young as yours -
This morning I found that some of the calci worms I had had hatched into flies and she was quite happy with them-
linda's gone buggy sells sample packs - small amounts of a couple of different feeders- make sure you tell her that you need the smallest if you go that route. If you have access to a mulburry tree hatching silks from eggs works well -

First shed

Well i made it to my local petstore yesterday and got a selection of different food. Not much of a choice though. They only had more wax worms but they also had mealy worms so i got a pack of those too. I ended up getting some small crickets. Babies really but i put a couple in het cage and she ate them immediately. I guess size does matter with food although when i first got her she ate big and small.

So she started her first shed with me the other day. It kinda freaked me out cause her head was pure white until i realized it was time to shed. Today shes really trying to peel it off all over. She makes the weird movements too. Like opening her mouth real wide trying to stretch the skin and make it loose. I know im not supposed to peel it off for her or anything but should i be keeping her moist or dry? The moisture seems to help her get it loose.

Alternative methods to give vitamins

All right ive realky got the pickiest chameleon ever. I really do!!! She still doesnt eat regularly. I just have to keep a couple hoppers in thier wait til they disapear. Which is causing a very bad problem. I cant get in any vitamins in her because of her eating habits. I do dust my hoppers but they lose thier coating when i mist. So i need some alternative methods besides gut loading and dusting. Please any help will be appreciated.
