Her previous setup was in fact a little 5 gallon aquariumwith a combo hood fixture including a compact fluorescent bulb. The sales person at the store did actually recommend a screen cage, but since she was so young we really wanted to have more accurate control over her temps & humidity and thought it would be easier with an aquarium until she started to grow a little. I don't fault him on the aquarium choice because I've seen a lot of mixed opinions on enclosures depending on a lot of different factors. Yes, I think a screen is preferable with better air movement, and yes, the right aquarium will make it easier to maintain conditions especially if you live somewhere that makes it difficult. I realise the internet can be a source of plenty of mixed opinions but there seems to be no mixed opinions as to the damage caused by these stupid little spiral compact flluorescent bulbs. It doesn't matter if the sales person knew, it is his job to know! I stated all this in my email to the corporate office of Petsmart. Because of the lack of knowledge & training their sales staff has, we were set up to fail. I think the amount of info that I've acquired since we've purchased our cham better qualifies me than their sales staff.
The good news is that after several showers outside in the sunlight, she did open her eyes and ate 2 crickets! I have called a vet to set up an apt.
A real live person from Petsmart responded to my email and stated someone would be contacting me and that my email would be forwarded to their management team. We'll see what they do.

That's great! My first chameleon had a spiral build on his enclosure. I was lucky he didn't have problems. Too bad some water gunk and hidden feces made him sick. He died about 6 months ago. I didn't really like him thou. He hated me, would only eat crickets, and run whenever I sprayed. Now I have Monty who likes to come out, eat everything, and let's me go in his cage with the spray bottle and spray him on the snout as he licks. It would be a good idea to also get a fecal done when to the vet.

We are on our way to the vet today. We have continued the misting and she is tolerating it, not running away. Wife told me she opened her eyes briefly today. It's approx. 10am and yesterday as far as I know she went the entire day without opening her eyes until after the showers in the early evening, right before she ate. Just maybe, there is some hope. She climbs around just fine even with her eyes shut. And as of last night she still has an appetite. When she does open her eyes she is looking around and focusing on objects, especially food. Even if this doesn't work, I know that the increased misting/humidity has been good.
The pet stores around here don't carry anything but crickets and mealworms/superworms. Silkworms don't seem to be available locally. Our cham doesn't care for worms a lot, maybe when she is older. She seems to loose a little interest in crickets, which is normal with boredom. She seems to like the occasional house fly. Is there a supplier of other good sources of feeder insects on the web that other cham owners like?
And where can I locate a good source of calcium without D3?

i raise roaches they are a awesome awesome awesome feeder they have 5x the meat of a cricket and are easier to lean up after plus they dont stink if u are planning on getting some there is a man on here named maxttu

Vet visit results

Vets analysis: possible sinus infection. Otherwise she stated her overall health looks good. She gave us antibiotic eye drops and will call us to check up on Tues this week. If no positive results then she'll give us oral antibiotics. The vet visit was very stressful however. I'm pretty sure our cham ate a cricket when we got home, but it is very difficult to get her to open her eyes for the drops. We're still hoping.
I ordered two cups of silkworms, some T Rex cricket gut load and T Rex Chameleon Dust, with the cost of the Vet bill and what I just ordered I really hope our cham makes it.
The vet stated they did an idividual study on some of the cricket feeds available on the market and T Rex brand was highly favored. The vet also stated that silkworms don't even need to be gutloaded and that they have many or all the nutrients our cham needs.

Fecal came back positive for a parasite. We are now administering 2 antibiotics and hand feeding bug juice and some crickets. She's not rejecting the food and she is still going to the bathroom. Hopefully she still has a chance.

After a couple weeks of several antibiotics she is doing better. Has a little trouble aiming properly when shooting her tongue, so we're hoping her vision improves. We no longer have to force feed and she is putting on weight, climbing around, pursuing food and drinking water. We're sending in a second fecal sample to verify that the parasite is gone and as I said hopefully her vision improves from the sinus infection.

Are you cup feeding? If not, that might make it a bit easier for her.

We're doing a little cup feeding but most of the time I just wound the crickets and lay them on their back close to her. As they wiggle she doesn't hesitate to gobble 'em up. The lone silk worm that I placed in her cage yesterday is missing in action, so I hope she ate it. The silk worms are supposed to be really good for her but she doesn't seem to dig'em all that much. I hope that changes, 'cause I had to buy two containers of them and they are starting to grow big.

Okay, hobbling the food and putting it in front of her is probably better than cup feeding for guaranteeing she gets them. I'm taking it you aren't wounding the worms. If you are, don't...just put them on a screen and let them crawl enticingly along.....

By the way, they grow into really pretty moths (which you could feed a larger chameleon)....we've seen people name them because they are so cute. So, if some make it to adulthood it might not be the worst thing you go through.

Nah, no need to wound the worms. They don't creep away so fast. She's eating the worms regularly now. 5-6 per day!
