Bad News Guys

I wasnt trying to ridicule or slam the post I just got upset that you said he fell back in march and you thought something was wrong with him. Then this thread was created saying the same thing that he fell except that now he is dieing from the fall now. There wasnt a single follow up to your previous post back in March and now your chameleon is dieing because he fell. It just sounded very unlikely that this couldve happened this way and I felt that something was missing from this post mainly the truth. Again I apologize if offended anyone and no one should be afraid to post anything. The last thing I want is someone not to post a quesrtion because they think there going to get bashed for not knowing enough. You learn how to keep chams from trial and error. I had quite a few chams pass before there time when I first started to keep chams. I guess what im trying to say is no matter what happens to your cham, whether it was an accident on your part or something the cham did which hurt him or herself. You should never be afraid to post the exact situation that happened even if it was something that couldve been prevented everyone on this forum only wants to help and there is such a wealth of knowledge on here that everyone should utilize it. Sorry if anyone felt I was being to hard on Sage.:( also sage sorry for your loss.

no need to apologize! I sent you a pm

I am sorry for Sage's passing on to the land of fat crickets and roaches. If you choose to take this as a learning experience and read a lot and follow along here I think you should replace Sage when you feel comfortable. You obviously care and are willing to put in the effort that is important.

I would also like to defend jaglon for all who attacked his line of inquiry. He had no intention of ridicule or criticism and was merely trying to get at all the details both of us felt were missing to be able to help as best as possible.

There are a lot of people who are embarrassed about previous care problems or ignorance so leave out details that would allude to this. This is not good when you're trying to get help for your animal.

In addition there are many who do not take criticism of their husbandry. I believe Sage does and is really trying. If you can't take criticism of your husbandry practices or be willing to defend them I'm not sure why you're here.

If you just want an empty attaboy and have poor practices reinforced to sooth your ego that is a serious problem and in my opinion a character flaw that makes one a poor caretaker.

Sorry for the loss of Sage.

And, you're right lysinlight87... People do come here for help and in most cases should not be critisized. If you're intentions are to do the best for your animal, and you are doing all that you possibly can, ignore the criticism and do your best to follow the advice you are given. If you are doing that, there will always be others who will come to your defense.

Some of the criticism comes as a result of arguing with or ignoring the advice or suggestions given, especially if the posting person doesn't like the answers they are getting and just starts another thread. If this is not the case, ignore the negativity and hopefully it will go away or be reported.

Please don't let a few angry, frustrated, or impolite people ruin it for you and your chams. If you want or need help, ask.

I've been given lots of useful advice since joining this forum & have been told of many ways I should adjust my husbandry & change things I thought were correct but weren't (use of substrate being one, use of a hydrogometer being another). I have not taken any of this advice as negative criticisms and have been extremely grateful. I want the best for my chameleon, BUT there are ways of speaking to people so as not to cause offence.

And this really not fair. I love my chameleon & would not intentially have poor practises or want them reinforced.

There are people from all of the world posing on this forum and a great many people to whom English is not their native tongue. When asking for help it is important to look for the content and be as direct as possible.

Sadly being direct is often not considered polite in many of the cultures represented here.

I say as long as someone is not specifically being insulting all criticism and advice should be taken with gratitude if asked for.

At the moment I'm more than a little offended about your last comment about ego. I just wanted to stand up for someone who seemed to be getting a hard time, I didn't realise that would get myself a beating & I'm crying over it, which is stupid. I guess this is why I have lots of pets & try keep out of the people side of things.

i dont think anything said was direct at you. everyone has there own opinion, and we all say things at the spur of the moment. try not to take things to heart.

First of all please don't let the opinion of some random doofus on an internet forum hurt your feelings.

Secondly I don't really think you have an issue with your ego effecting the care of your animals and this was not directed at you but rather a piece of general advice to keep in mind for all. Do with it what you will. If it hurts you to consider one doing it be vigilant and try to help others not do it.

Nobody was beating you up ever that I noticed and I apologize you took it that way.

I saw a thinking trend (not necessarily spawned from your comments) that I wanted to address so a tragedy like this doesn't have to happen again.

Don't defend a person's mistakes, encourage them to understand and not make them again.

I too often prefer the company of most animals over people we're an obnoxious species at times!
