Background:

Gus, Male Jackson Cham, approx 6 mths, PetCo babe (didn't know better)

Housed in all screen enclosure 2x2x4

Given Repashy All in One for 1 week daily, prev calc no D3 daily w/Multi every other week and Calc w D3 alternate week.

Fed Crickets, Superworms, Waxworms
(Won't eat Dubai's as much as I keep trying). Gut feed all with Flukers all in one and Mazuri better bugs. He gets 2-3 worms daily and 8-12 crickets & eats all within 10 mins in am after about 45-60 mins warm up time in morn w/just lights on.

Lil Dripper ran 3xs daily for 25 mins at steady drip. He drinks in front of me from leaves, also directly from hand sprayer often. All water treated with Reptisafe-dripper, mister, humidifier & hand sprayer.

Humidifier ran on lowest 12 hrs and Mistking ran every 4 hrs for 8 secs (enclosure is dry between sessions). Humidity stays between 70-80 which is difficult. He goes in shower for 20 mins every 4-5 days also.

Heat lamp, UVB lamp, and darkness at night: .Basking temp is between 75-80
Middle/Bottom 1/3 is at 65-70 with cage staying at 65-70 when lights out.

He is outdoors when it's above 70 and not breezy approx every other day/daily. (MI is still very random with weather)

Fecal done last month, clear of parasites. Poop is jelly Bean sized and regular, with white urate.

Cage is cleaned using wipe out reptile cleaner every 2-3 weeks and allowed to thoroughly dry and then rinsed after drying.

2 air plants and artificial for all other plants.

His temperment is excellent, he will lunge at my hand to step on it, comes out unless feeding and is quite active during day. Friendlier than I ever could've guessed possible.

We have had him approx 3-4 mths now, he has had resp infection minus any excess saliva, just gaping mouth with a slight pop sound.

He went to our reptile specialist for annual fecal test and resp infection. He was gaping often, sleepy in day, and not as active as usual. We did first try taking him into Petco for their health guarantee, but after 48 hrs they returned and said he was healthy. They did not test any fecal/address the resp issues.

She perscribed a round of 2 weeks of Baytril once per day which was administered, yesterday was to be his last day.

He seemed to improve, very rapidly, no gaping mouth, activity increased, etc...now last night, and again this morning, he is gaping his mouth often again and I believe I can hear the slight noise breathing with mouth open. Like a tiny pop.

Unsure if I should return him to same exotic vet, get a second opinion elsewhere, if husbandry needs tweaking, etc.

Thank you in advance for your help!! We would have never purchased thru Petco had we known better....but that's a whole other subject at this point, and are extremely attached to him already.

is it an actual humidifier you have or a fogger? do you see the "humidity" coming out of it? and is it placed inside cage or outside? some pics of enclosure could help too. but my personal opinion on it is, it's probably the humidifier causing issues I would up the mistings, and lower if not get rid of humidifier. you can also keep dripper going all day at a slow drip as long as it gets turned off at night. that is usually the best time for a humidifier. but in terms of vet I would definitely go with a different one. not running a fecal is one thing, if it just got done. but if you were concerned about ri and they didn't even test for it, it doesnt really seem like they did their job.

Yes, regular humidifier set to outside of screen--so the fog rolls into the cage and dispenses thru to bottom. He def doesn't drink from it but will sit right at the place it sits when it's turned off often lol.

I was struggling so much with humidity levels getting high enough for him that I caved and went to adding the humidifier approx one month ago, I was concerned it was a combo of something I needed to tweak as well as potential prev issues from improper housing we purchased him from .

I should've worded better, I added the Petco portion in after typing the vet info.

The Petco vet did not do a fecal or address the resp issues at all.

The exotic vet-Parkway Exotics & Small Animals did do both the fecal and address r.i. after viewing him and seeing video clips I brought in of him sitting with mouth open for long periods of time.

Thank you, I really appreciate your advice, I actually thought I had really researched well until he came home!!
