Wasn't paying too much attention to the weather, but here in the Tampa area it is now 49 degrees! I switched on my outside guys heat lamps early before the temps went below 50-and tonight we are supposed to have record lows for this time of year-so in come the big cages!

Anyone sustaining outside chams in the winter with plastic sheeting and ceramic heaters? Any other methods? This is my first year keeping anyone outside...

How are you other freezing Floridians doing???

It was 41 here in Georgia last night. The chams have been really enjoying the weather here lately, but brought them all in yesterday. Maybe they will be able to go out again this weekend for the day. Temps will be up then.

pretty chilly down here too, thinking bout stepping up my basking wattage for the next few days, my cages are inside my apart. so the night lows wont get as bad as you outsiders.

I am in southern California, and a few years ago before I built my "chameleon condos" (as my wife calls it), to house my chameleons during the winter months, I had to deal with keeping all the chams warm enough. Southern California winters are very mild compared to what most everyone deals with, but we ocassionly get freezing temps at night. I used to use moving blankets, cut a hole where the heat lamp is and put it over the cage at night. This worked well even on the coldest of nights. It was a lot of work with a lot of cages, and you definitely didn't want to forget to take off the blankets in the morning as the inside of the cages would heat up too much with the sun shining on the blankets.

when I was growing up (in Oklahoma), I raised cockateils and had a couple parrots. We built a large aviary (approx. 12'x12'x6') for them it the back yard, and in winter (it gets %$@& cold in OKC in winter) we would cover the entire cage with sheets of styrofoam and used heaters inside. It actually kept it nice and toasty. I don't know how a cham would take to it though......I'd just move him inside if possible.

I live in okc and no doubt it was cold as @#$# last night im glad i got my little guy before this cold front came through

Whoa whoa whoa... Wait a minute... I thought manmade global warming was going to destroy us all in the next few years? Where's Bueno? We need an explanation...

I'm in Sarasota and last winter was my first with chams (two panthers). I only brought them in on the few occasions when the overnight low was going into the 30's. Down to 40 they stayed outside. On a few borderline nights I put a towel/sheet over their cages. If the next day was going to stay cold and overcast I offered a heat lamp for several hours in the morning.

I've heard of panthers seeing short term overnight drops into the mid or low 30's without any harm. Keep in mind my very limited experience but it seems to me panthers could live in the wild here without much problem.

Georgia was pretty chilly today! My chams are indoors, but the weather seems a bit early for around here!

Georgia has been extremely chilly over the last 3 days. I'm from Southeast Florida, just North of Ft.Lauderdale, and this is incredibly cold for me. And to think I work as a Groundskeeper, picking up garbage and watering plants in this weather

I am in the process of packing these 3 huge cages (Oustalets and Nosy) into the family room spider webs and all!

I didn't put my chams outside this morning. (They are inside pets). When I went outside to check on the cage this morning the wind had blown it over it was so strong and with the temps being chilly I opted to wait for a better day as there is no protection on my patio for the wind.

I actually feel better keeping them inside in the warmer temps.

Move to Arizona and that will solve the cold weather problems! Then you just have extreme heat issues to deal with! LOL! It was over 90 degrees here today:eek:

No Way! I will pass-extreme heat here enough, and only a half dozen days of super cold! :)

Everyone has been in, everyone sleeping peacefully!

I LOVE Arizona - believe it or not I love the heat as well. Would never want to live in a cold weather area again. I am originally from Ohio and I hate snow! I am cold when it gets below 70 degrees - how sad is that????
