Beardie behavior

I just relocated my granddaughter's beardie to my living room, so she is not spending days on end alone. I noticed her gaping while under her basking lamp and after some research on other sites, I think it is normal behavior for them as they regulate their temps. She only does this on the hot side of her tank. Another thing she is doing is clawing at the glass. Some of the info I read says it is her reacting to her reflection but she used to sit in front of a mirror and she does it on the back and sides of the tank. Others say she wants out, when I do take her out she tries to run away and my living room is not exactly "dragon safe" as I have two large dogs so I don't give her free range on the floor. I can make an area for her on the floor if you all think she may need running around time. One other question is how long should her lights be on?

Her behaviors that you mentioned are normal.
Some exercise and time outside the cage would be beneficial. You can keep the lights on for about 12 hours a day during this time ogf the year.
