So today my cham went to bed early today (lights on) and I've hard thats bad I just got him yesterday and was Wondering if because of the transaction. Yesterday he was up all day and didnt go to bed till I turn the lights off (11:30) today he found a new spot and was sleep by 9:00 with the light s on should I be concerned

A lot of us keep their light cycle in tune with circadian cycles, so it's lights on when the sun it out, and lights off when the sun goes down. That keeps your cham on a roughly 12 hour cycle - I go up to 13 hours with the lights on in the summer, and down to 11 hours in the winter. If your cham can see a window he/she will be more influenced by that than by artificial lights in their enclosure. You may want to adjust how long and for what hours you have the lights on for your cham.

Since you just got your cham he/she is still trying to adjust - where they shipped and did they cross time zones? I would keep an eye on their sleeping schedule but I don't think you have to worry at this point - again, just adjust your light schedule and you should be fine.

My cham sleeps quiet a bit during the day. He seems very healthy. Eating, drinking, pooping, shedding. He roams a lot never stays at the bottom of his cage but he does tend to nap during the day. I have read they shouldn't sleep during the day but he seems just fine to me. I do however have to wake him at about 6 am every morning before I go to work. This gives him about a half hour to warm up before I feed him and leave. Is my schedule messing him up or is it ok for them to take cat naps during the day. He will even climb out on to his free range find a good spot and go to sleep.

Luke is up w/ the morning sunrise, and finds his favorite spot about 30 mins prior to dusk. I could set my clocks by him.

I would get your cham checked out by a vet - they really shouldn't nap during the day. What time is lights out for him? 6AM is ok to turn on the lights, but then they should go off around 6-7 depending on the time of year and how late it stays light. I'd just make sure he doesn't have any sort of parasites that are sapping his energy and making him want to sleep.

Lights out is usually about 8. What kind of parasite would steal his energy but not effect him in any other noticeable way?

Terribly concerned please help.

I've got my Chameleon two days ago and I'm very concerned. He changes colour constantly so I have no idea what his original colour is, sometimes he's light green sometimes he's dark green and sometimes he has black spots and other times he has yellow ones. He sleeps during day especially when he's on my hand, and I've heard that's not a good sign. To be honest, I didn't buy any UV light simply because I don't know from where to buy it, I've looked in several places. And I couldn't buy any crickets as well because they don't sell them where I live so I try to feed it flies and worms. Finn, my chameleon, hasn't eaten anything ever since I bought him nor drank any water. I dont know what to do. Please help.

Where do u live? There is no chain pet store ( petsmart, petco)? I am only about five months in with my guy but I do know u should get that uv bulb and a good staple for his diet ASAP. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can help. Also if u haven't filled out the ask for help form thats a good place to start.

Both of you, Finn and Denverbug, should take your little guys to the vet. Chameleons are masters of hiding illness until one day they keel over in their cages, so I would not be complacent about napping throughout the day. It may mean they are fighting an infection and they are tired/weak/uncomfortable, for example, or something else is going on. But I'd have a professional take a look at them.

Finn, if he's sleeping during the day when you just got him probably means he came to you already in poor shape. 2 days without UVB would not cause a problem so quickly. Could you make a new thread and tell us about where you got him from and how you're housing him, please? And we'll help where we can.

Very much so. Chameleons are masters at acquiring "silent killers." By the time symptoms are present, it may often be the case where it's too far gone.

Finn, you really should start your own thread, and fill this form out:

If you bought him at a pet store, there's a fairly high likelihood that he wasn't knowledgeably cared for and acquired an illness or poor health whilst in their care, before you even brought him home.

Thank u guys for the replies I will call the vet and set an appointment. I will let u all know how it goes. Thanks again.

I've got an appointment for tomorrow. Hopefully he travels well and does good at the vet. He won't let me touch him so good luck to the poor vet. I'm hopeing everything is fine with him. He's been up all day so far today and be doesn't nap all the time. But I'd rather be safe.
