Bene bac?

So I went out to find bene bac for birds to use on my anole, but the pet store didn't have it only the one for small animals. Can I use this anyway? It's the gel form. It has all the same ingredients except the first form of bacteria in the bird one says "avian strain" but does that matter?

Yes. The avian strain is what birds/some reptiles have according to research so that is the bacteria in the gut that you are trying to replace/promote. If you use something that's not the resident strain then it won't establish or promote a population. Essentially it's not helping if it's not the right kind. And since mammals and birds/reptiles have different bacteria that's why they make it that way.

Okay so it will be okay to use? It was only the one form of bacteria that was slightly different. How much should I give him? He is tiny so maybe just a couple drops?

Did you get the avian or the mammal version? If it's the mammal version you can use it, but I doubt it will do much because they need the more specific strain to match what they have (in the avian version).

I only found the mammal version. But it's only 1 out of 7 of the total strains of bacteria that are different. He's having digestive issues, he is anorexic and can't seem to digest anything. He is a rescue I just got from a pet store.

In that case I'd suggest a fecal exam and some other diagnostics like bloodwork. But do whatever you want.

well they had 4 different species of small lizards in the same small tank and only threw in a handful of crickets. There were at least 10 other anoles that were larger than him. So my best guess is he hasn't been able to eat and now his digestive tract is out of wack. But I can't spend a lot of money on trying to help him, I don't have any and my boyfriend doesn't even know I have him
