Bindi update:Still no eggs and VERY worried

Laurie-thanks for the help and putting me in touch with ferret! Ill have no hair left if it keeps going this way!

Ferret-Thank you, I think I will give her a few more days with her new dirt soil mix that i did a few days ago...she does have a comfy home in her bin and I am ultra careful about minimal contact, etc. I think your right another vet visit may be a good idea I am just so worried that she is on the verge of laying and then i disturb the heck out of her by taking the stressful journey to the vet...or do i take her now so i know then give her the time if she looks good...?

Do you or anyone know if soil with vermiculite/perlite is ok for laying material? the reason i ask is her new set up has a large live plant (Draceana Reflexa) and a nice large pot with topsoil that contains vermiculite/perlite. i read that its not a great idea if they eat it so i covered it with 2 inches of straight fir/peat moss mixture for when she goes into her new home.

I could move her to this new larger set up to see if she would lay or be happier there? Otherwise my plan was to move her to it right after she lays in her bin first. (20 gal black trash)

Im so glad your iguana was ok! i also owned a few iguanas in my life and they are amazing too.

Thanks in advance for your ideas and help

i have noticed since she has been with eggs and even more recently there are bumps/ridges along her back. any ideas or is this tied to why she hasnt laid yet? is this dehydration?

Heres a pic

Poor Bindi, has she still not laid her eggs? are you keeping her in her laying bin? if shes not happy in there might be worth trying a smaller pot in her original viv. Fernie lays in her 6inch deep lunch box with damp vermiculite. ive had no egg problems with her using this method. Fernie refused to lay in her new viv so we had to move her back in the old viv last time. Good luck & keep us updated ive been sending lots of luck & wshes to your litte Bindi

I too have had this worry with my veild. She had me up all night many times. So I know what your going through!! She hated her laying bin. She dug a hole and slept in it for 2 days then covered it up and dug another but didn't like that one either. Then another 4 days of pure digging, 1:30 in the morning she started laying. She decided she didn't like any of her tunnels so layed her eggs in a little hole and afew on the top of the sand lol. I thought she was gonna pop the last few weeks and you could clearly see 4-5 eggs on each side of her tummy. Considering she didn't eat for 2 weeks and then dug for 4 days straight I think she's amazing. I think when she stops eating you will know she's very near to laying. Ive not seen your other posts tho so not sure how long youve already waited. Hope everything works out for ya x hollie

Kinyonga-Shes at the vet now. he gave her some fluids and the ridge seemed to look a little better. I think she is dehydrated from the eggs, etc. I will try to get you a better pic later if i can, or enlarge this one.

Thank you hollie and sarah

update today-she has gone 3 weeks from her exray confirming she was full of eggs. I took her in to the vet for an updated xray and he said some of the eggs are changing shape and size so its time to try oxytocin...she is there right now and i am at work a nervous wreck.

Hopefully she drops her eggs and i can get her home and set up in her new vivarium. i put her in it last night and she was so happy she didnt want to leave this morning.

Thanks Ferret your last post was what ultimately led me to take her back in for the vet visit, i am soooo excited too!

Glad to hear the oxy is working and she is now laying eggs. Keep us posted on how she is doing!!

All is wellwith Bindi!

Well Bindi ended up laying all her eggs yesterday after a small dose of Oxy..The eggs were like little jelly beans (34 of them) and some had gotten to the point of shriveling up a bit. Its probably good we did what we did, when we did it.

What a relief! I slept better knowing she was feeling better, fed, watered and in her brand new 4 ft vivarium. She roamed and explored and drank and ate like nothing had even happened. Shes a tough cookie!

****I want to say an extra special thanks to all of you involved and folowing Bindi. If it wasnt for people like you who care enough to answer threads, email personally and even talked on the phone I would have been completely lost.

I dont know if the forum "regulars" realize what good they are doing for the hobby but especially the Chams themselves. How many Chams that have been recovered, or survived off of the advice from many of you experts or stories of others that have been through it before is hard to count, but Im sure more than you think!

I wish all the places that sold Chams would have to be "certified" or take a class, etc to do so. It very sad that Bindi was just let go to me (never owned a female) with no additional info instruction or etc. Lucklily being a good pet owner and having the financial recourses to do so..(probably cost me 1500.00-2000 so far!) I was able to keep her safe and alive.

But again, THANK YOU. You know who you are, i dont have time to individually thank you all but your all aprreciated!, Bindi is a happy girl. Updated pics to come.

:D

Great news! Glad to hear she's doing well. Feed her well for the next few days and give her some liquid calcium and then cut back on the feeders and the heat.

I have been off the forum a couple of days, end of vacation, but am so happy you have a happy outcome with Bindi. We have all worried along with you.
