Hi Everyone,
I just received my new baby veiled in the mail from FLChames. As soon as I opened the box at about 3 pm he was black. It's almost 9 pm now, but he still black or dark brown. He has good appetite, probably ate like 8 crickets already. Drinking good, and seems pretty active. Anyways, how long does it take them to start changing color after arrival? Thank you.

if he is cold he will remain a dark coloration. the darker the color the better the heat absorption and retention.

What's his temp like in his enclosure? I wouldn't worry too much. It may just be a little stressed still from the trip.

I would suggest you also to fill out the form.

Generally you don't need a night heat bulb. If your night temps are below 50F, you should use a ceramic emitter so it has no light output (chameleons can see red light)

When you said its 72F did you mean 72F in the cooler parts of the cage or 72 directly under the spot light? if its 72 under the spot light, thats too cold.

the spotlight should be around 85 with the rest of the cage varying from 70-85

EDIT: My numbers may not be very accurate for a baby veiled, but it'll give you a good starting point until someone else can give more specific info

Well here it is:

Chameleon Info:

Your Chameleon - Veiled Chameleon, Male, about 2-3 month. Had him for 2 days.
Handling - Have not handled him yet after putting him inside. I really want him to get use to new home.
Feeding - So far only small crickets. I am using "Complete Bites" as on a picture, as only source to feed crickets. Is it OK?
Supplements - Rep-Cal Herptitive twice a month, Rep-Cal Calcium with D3 twice a month. Calcium without d3 every feeding. I put a tiny plastic spoon with particular supplement inside a plastic bag from say... Petsmart, and mix crickets in it.
Watering - Little home made dripper last about 3 hrs, misting about 4 times a day for 2 mins. Next to cage is room humidifier from Target. Always ON!
Fecal Description - He is been pooping like 2-3 times a day, looks dark brown and moist.
History - Had him for 2 days.

Cage Info:

Cage Type - All screen cage 2x2x4 feet. Vertical.
Lighting - For UVB i bought Zilla T8 tropical fixture that fits 24 inch bulb. I plan to change to reptisun 5.0 bulb in 2 months. I have put it diagonally on top of the cage so it would catch his movement area. For basking I use 100w basking light bulb. And Night Bulb 100w, but I don't use it.
Temperature - Average temp during day time is about 75 F and 85-95 F under the basking spot (checked with temperature gun) Night temp doesn't go below 65 F
Humidity - After Misting is about 60%, after hours without misting may drop to 35%. Yesterday ordered 2 live organic ficus flowers.
Plants - Ficus on the way.
Placement - The cage is located in the corner between couch and balcony door. The cage is on the floor, so the top is 48 inches.
Location - I live in Phoenix, AZ.

72 it was far away from Basking Light.

didnt look at pics or read thru everything. just put what stood out to me. sorry if i stay i'll be late for work :D

Your set up is looking very nice.
I would remove the bowls from the bottom of the cage as they are not needed. Just take paper towel out daily when it gets feces on it. You might like to add more twigs/ sticks for sturdy climbing areas as well. I like to use different sizes so that they can exercise differently. I can't tell but do you have any real plants in there??? I was thinking the pink covering was just fake? Is that correct?

He should lighten up as he gets more acclimated. My nosy be baby was black for at least two weeks. That was the longest it's happened for me.
