Bleeding, help!

My 1 yr old veileds back foot seems to be bleeding. It looks like he may have stepped on something sharp or he may have grabbed his own food and his nail dug in and caused bleeding.

I have it patched up but wanted to know if there is anything else I should do before I take him back to his vet.

How much was it bleeding? A vet visit is always a good idea. When you change the bandage can you get a good picture of the wound?

I couldn't see a wound because he was constantly bleeding. But I'll try to get a picture.i didn't put anything else on it as I wasn't sure if it's safe.

He was still moving around and using his foot so it doesn't seem like it's bad but I patched it up to avoid any infection.

Clean it with betadine, then apply some Silvadene and loosely bandage the area so it stays clean while you wait for a vet appointment. You will probably need an oral antibiotic so infection doesn't set in.

Here's a picture.
I put some anti-infection meds.

He could have cut it but it could be bumble foot. That's a problem they get from being on one size of branches all the time. They get pressure sores from standing on the same part of the foot constantly. If he doesn't have a variety of branch sizes I would change some out as you get this treated.
Triple antibiotic ointment will do for now if you don't have silvadene.

He actually does have various different places he sits on. He has real branches, thinner bamboo sticks and ropes all in his cage. He spends most of his time on the ropes when basking. He sleeps on the thing bamboo sticks.

I had recently learned his cage and thoughly scraped down his branches so I am not sure where that cut could have come from.

*Cleaned his cage

It was just something to be aware of. Sound like he has a good variety of sizes. Chams on those one size manufactured vines tend to be the ones with bumble foot.

Jann and others have given you good advice.
If the bleeding hadn't stopped then more would have had to be done.

Yes I'm very relieved. Thank you everyone!

How long should I keep his foot bandaged? His vet appointment isn't for the next few days.

I would clean, medicate and change the bandage twice a day with one time being late evening so it will stay dry all night.
