I have purchased 4 reptiglo uvb bulbs in the last 4 months.

they keep blowing.
the most recent incident happened when my power went out.

now im mad. when these bulbs are at least 20 bucks a pop, and i have 4 chamleoens,

anyone else have these problems?

Oh I despise Reptiglo! They never last me more than a couple of weeks. I typically only get Zoomed now, they are much better quality! I want to say SunGlow is the other type I use... but not 100%. Ditch your Reptiglo, they make me so mad!

Really?? I have reptiglo and it has worked just fine... except when my sister made the bulb drop and even then it still worked

Is it possible that somthing in your setup is to blame?
Maybe a "magic" angling of a nozzle is shooting just enough water at the right place and getting to the contacts?
Maybe the fixture is going bad?

Where all the bulbs purchased at the same location?

my first two i had did great. lasted till i needed to replace.
but then i had to replace two cuz they randomly died.

then saturday i had a power outage, and sunday the power rotated from room to room in my house [i know wierd]
so i think the ones i have now blew from the power problems, but i just keep having to replace them. and im pissed off. these bulbs are 20 bucks each.

i have a special needs faly coming on tuesday who needs a asap vet visit for prolapsing and coccidia.

i have to build 5 cages. so ill need new lights, materials to build. plants etc.

i just cant be replacing uvb bulbs every 2 months!!!!

Yes I bought them all from the same place. Petsmart ( i know i know, but i only buy supplies)
by rotating power i mean, that my kitchen had a small amount of power, then it would lose it, and then my living room had a small amoutn of power.

no tripping breakers. just random rotation.

almost like running lights on a generator. but no generate im aware of (apt complex)

i thought it was a fixture. but the hoods keep my basking bulbs working just fine.

i have one dual fixture that has been through 2 uvb bulbs, but im on the same basking bulb for 5 months.

and i tried switching sides with the basking and uvb, still blew the bulb.

and its not water, i hand mist, and no water gets on the fixtures.

My guess would be either..
A) Your fixtures are taking a crap
B) Fixtures/Bulbs are getting too wet
C) Something wrong with the electrical in your house but thats doubtful unless other housebulbs are blowing too
D)Bad bulbs
Most likely its moisture or bad bulbs

im thinking maybe just bad bulbs.
ive had no other bulb issues in the house. and its possible its the fixtures, they have been moved from house to house to house a couple times.

they are being replaced soon anyway once i get my supplies for my new cages.
im going to get he tube style bubls and so ill needew fixtures. though im going to keep these for baby cages.

That's weird, I buy Reptiglo a lot because when I remember to get a new bulb I'm usually at Petsmart/Petco with my dogs, so it's easy to grab one of the 18" or 24" ones. The 48" I have to order and I go with Reptisun. But I've never had a problem with any of them bursting, how strange!

well i use the coil ones for right now. waiting to get my cages built before i get the tubes.

so youre using a cfl and not a tube? id say if were a tube blowing it would probably be the ballast in you fixture, and its usually cheaper to replace fixtures over ballasts.

do you have your shoplight, or clamplamp run through a powerstrip, surge protector, or timer?

do you have a volt meter? if the voltage is lower than the standard 110-120 they fry really quick. at least that was the case for me when i was using them in a lamp with a dimmer that wasnt turned all the way up.

the dimmer being low didnt effect the performance but i had em fry out on me within a few weeks.

yes cfl, no tubes. i know i know im horrible cham mommy. :p
clamplamps and a dual light fixture run through an extention cord plugged into my timer.

i dont have a volt meter, buti can get one. maybe ill try that and see whats going on. and no timer.
might change it so that each set of lights per cahm is on its own plug. see how that goes, guess ill go get some more timers in a few weeks.

cant do a whole lot right now, as ive got a faly coming who needs a major vet trip...

Check it with a meter if you can. That sounds like a serious problem.
I think it should be checked.
A long long time ago I worked as an electrician.
They will rob you blind ;/ but having it checked is better than a fire, or serious damage to your house or existing electrical.

Sounds like a transformer issue.
(not that Im an expert)

Getting a meter and checking what kind of readings you get around the house could be very informative.

Weird problem though.

well i have a mhubby who can check it all. he knows how to check.

but it was very weird.
but it was the first time it happened, and we had a bad wind storm saturday night, high wind warning all day saturday. and now its fine.

i think i just need to split my lights up to different plugs, get new fixtures.. and hope it works. :/ if it keeps blowing bulbs, maintence can come deal with it.

but its not blowing any other bulbs anywhere else. so im wondering if its
a- that one plug
b- all my fixtures are crapping out
c- i got a bad batch of bulbs.
