Blue prints

Does anybody have blue prints to make a nice drainage table for a 24x24x48 screen cage. I just ordered a mistking and have to come up with something that catches all the water and is easy to dump it. Thanks.:)

Hey buddy,
how about simply using seramis or swelling clay (about 5cm high) and seperate it from the rest of the soil with garden fleece. Then you may simply assemble an outflow with which you can let the water out each few weeks.

Im not using any soil or substrate in the bottom of my cage. Ive heard that its not a good thing to do so that your chameleon doesnt ingest it while catching his food.

I too recently installed a MistKing in my cage. My bottom of my cage I made is all screen so all the water drips right out the bottom. What I just decide to do beside have the water drip into a pan is create a drainage system too. All I am doing is using a piece of kitchen flooring and attach it to all the corner of the cage. But I am angling it on a do ward slop and attaching a piece of 1/4 inch bendable hose like what comes with the MistKing to the end of the slope and drain into a bucket. It's a pretty simple idea and will only cost a few bucks. This is something that u can play around with to come up with an idea. You just dont want to use any type of wood here because it will create mold really quick. My first bottom to my cage was wood and it was stained and sealed and had mold on it in a week.

Hello,
as long as you do not use bark or similar things which your cham might swallow, you will not have any problems.

For the most part here all of our cages tend to either be PVC or mesh and have no way of creating a living terrarium base... And as far as substrate goes even ingesting the soil can cause problems beyond impaction such as infections from bacteria or parasites... That's why it is recommended that regardless of where the soil is present, base or pots, that it be covered with stones large enough to prevent ingestion of even the smalles particulates to prevent a health disaster... When we bring these guys over and breed them, stress and foreign parasites and bacteria they are not used to they can't defend against

Parasites are highly selective and you won´t get any problems with tropical species because the parasites simply won´t fit them.
If your cage is not wet all day long and can dry completely between watering you will not have any problems with bacteria either.

Were not talking about the cage drying were talking about the soil which DEFINITEY doesn't dry out in two hours... And how are parasites selective from tropical species...

Hello,
in my screencages the soil drys out at least once per day, no problem.
Inner parasites do only have one specific host animal which they can "use" so you won´t have problems with species that come from other continents or countries.

Put a hole in the table or shelf. Put the cage over the hole and then drill holes in the bottom of the cage. place a bucket underneath.... WOrks great!

This is what I did. These tables used to hold 2 2x2x4" cages side by side with a few inches of margin all around. But they can be built for just one, obviously. Now they serve as free range stands for my two panthers.

So I built a table, but up 4 sides (like an open box) and then took a big sheet of PVC liner sheets from Home Depot and nailed the edges to the inner sides and then nailed the middle around a drainage hole. The slopped edges direct the water and I don't have to worry about water pooling and rotting the wood. Then I added ledges and on those ledges I lay wood bars to support the cages. Those are removable and I can change it around depending on how I need it, like you can see with the plants in the free range.

Cost about $100 for both tables, but one would cost a lot less. The PVC plastic isn't very cheap.
