Bodhi goes to the vet for a second time in 3 days.

So we rushed Bodhi to the vet today with what we thought was a prolapse. I guess what is sticking out is his hemipene. They gave us a choice to amputate or try letting it go back with the help of medication. What do you guys recommend ? Right now I'm going with medication. Poor dude has had enough for one week. First the leg and finding out he has MBD to now this big bulge hanging out.

Yes Bodhi was there most of the day and he was even put under to have it cleaned, put back in and stitched when we thought it was a prolapse. Then the vet had a closer look and it was the hemipene. So he gave some stuff to rub on it 4 times a day and hope it goes back in.

If it hasnt gone back in, and the vet cant.. you have a few options.

I had this same issue with my panther, he would prolapse repeatedly.

for the most part i was able to get it back in after rubbing ky jelly on it.

on the few occasions it wouldnt go back in (presumably from too much swelling internally) i applied ky to it every hour for 24 hours, (which sucked btw) and that gave it time for the swelling to go down.

had it not gona back in when it did, i would have had the vet remove it.
Hes got two hemepene anyway.

I'll give it a day poor dude what knocked out cold he couldn't get it to go back if he wanted to. Cross your fingers.

It's not a prolapse anus it's his wee wee lol so it has to just go back in or be cut off. I'm hoping it goes back in.

i guess its just me but even if i had 6 "wee wees", 2 choices and one is cut it off, ill choose WHATEVER the other option is!

If it doenst get removed, then it can become necrotic and infected, which is very very bad.

if you were told your wee wee would dry up and become infected, what would you do?

Well if it stars to dry up I will have the vet remove it. I'm hoping it goes back in.

and don't worry too much, as it's an easy and quick procedure. and luckily they were born with two. he would have no trouble at all breeding in the future with his remaining hemipene.

conversely, it can start an infection which he doesn't need right now at all, and he is continued to be some degree of stressed by not being home. I would suggest you allow them to do it and take him home, likely the same day. and should he ever lose the other hemipene and couldn't breed it would be a shame (and rare), but still better than him being sick or worse.

The vet just cleaned it up, put it in place again, put a stitch in, and gave him some antibiotics to clear up any infection.

So far so good.

Well my boy is home and bright blue and green so he is happy. He even eat a worm. I'm still at work my girlfriend had to take care of it today. I just want to get home and see him myself.
