breeding differant locals

i know most chameleon breeders look down on breeding differant locals.I was tinking if i got into breeding my cham, balrog {dark maroon Ankarmy} i would probably go with a noseybe or somthing. from what i have read ankaramy babies are very little compared to other locales and are more difficult to care for. and scince i have not worked with cham's for long maybe crossing the local would be easier?would crossing make the offspring stronger and moore adaptable?what would be some benafits and negatives of breeding differant locals?

I believe that introducing other locals wouldn't hurt the cham gene wise. It will only inherit a wider variety of genes that say the anky's don't have access to because of physical barriers. It might make them stronger because over time these locals are only breeding with a fixed level of gene diversification. It is the same reason that breeders bring in new imports. Its to diversify the genes and give more variety to their chams code. But you have to think of the business around it, would you be able to sell and break even breeding crosses in the panther market. Most people want pure locals.

that sounds exactly like what i am thinking. however take my panther for example. i personally think his coloration rocks. from his emerald green nose crest to his maroon body coloration. evan though most ankaramys ar pink he just stands out.i cannot be posative he is 100% ankaramy.but i know who i got him from and i just have to trust the person.i am not planning on building a buisness of breeding and selling panthers. i just want the experiance of breeding and passing on balrog's offspring. I have breed leo's and cresti's for yrs now. i might do well with chams i might not but ill give it a try sooner or later.

Don't get me wrong im not saying that cross breeding between locals is immoral, and I think that it would bring a nice looking cham, but you could always just breed pure Ankarmys, and keep it pure and more people would want to buy it. It might be a little harder then you want but you still will be spreading his genes, and keeping the lines pure. My lady loves the pink panthers, and they are one of my favorite ones too. Hope you are successful in your breeding.

I am usually all for experimenting, but when it comes to rarer locales like Ankaramy, Nosy Mitsio, etc, I think focussing on pure-bred for the first while until they are more established in captivity it essential for guaranteeing that those in the future who want pure-bred can get it.

When there are more Ankaramys available, then I think mixing would be fine. Mixing Nosy Be and Ambilobe, in my opinion, makes very little difference in the availability of pure-bred Nosy Be and Ambilobes; because they are much more widely available and have already been pure-bred for enough generations to guarantee availability.

I think Nosy Be and Ankaramy would be a good cross though. I would be very interested to see the results there.

Things that make you go Hummm!

Funny you would pick a pink with a Nosy Be. I've had alot of requests, and people wanting to buy my pinks to mate with the blues. It's been a really trend lately. Has anyone done this, and have pics of offspring? I'm pretty sure someone in the pacific northwest has done it, but I've only seen a single picture of a juvenile.

I think that if you want to breed him and are willing to keep all the ofspring I would say to go for it. I don't breed my leos so much to sell as I do just for fun. I've kept every single hatchling for myself because I like having my originals' babies. If it's a personal project out of curiosity then I would do it. I wouldn't mount a buisness off of it, of course, but as a personal quest I vote you do it :D I'd love to see the outcomes.

Interesting, I wonder if pink is ever the dominant color. I love the Ankaramy the way they are with the pink skin and blue spikes. If they just turn out like that one in the pic, then you should just breed Nosy Be's.

Since you already have a male Ankaramy, I'd say get a female Ankaramy. They are much more spectacular than mixing them and just getting babies that look like Nosy Be's lol.

Up to you, but after seeing the mix, they aren't as interesting as ambilobe mixes.
