Breeding my Veilds??

Hello, i bought a pair (male+Female) Veild Cham's at the REPTILE SUPER SHOW on Jan.4 2009.

i have owned many cham's in the past including 3panthers,2jacksons,3 veilds... and think that i am ready to start a breeding project... i have a HUGE; probably 6 foot tank they are in that i custom built myself, it is about 3x3x6high..... plenty room for my two veilds.

i have tanks for the babies and plenty of time and plenty of money to spend :)

i bought them when they were about a month old. so i would say that they are about FIVE MONTHS OLD. I have had them seperated with a visual barrier fo rthe past 3 months.

AT WHAT POINT SHOULD I INTRODUCE THEM TO EACHOTHER???

WHERE SHOULD I INTRODUCE THEM TO EACHOTHER??

outdoors on a sunny day??? or just put the male into the females tank??

i just kind of want to know where to begin .. lol -

i have done a fair amount of research on the topic but i like hearing it first hand from expeirenced chameleion breeders.

:)

THANK YOU SO MUCH -

When the female is close to a year old-then you can breed them. Breeding a female younger will shorten her lifespan and rob her growing body from calcium. When hey are old enough, hold the female outside of the males cage and see how she reacts. If she is calm and stays light in color, you could probably just remove the visual barrier, leave them together until she shows gravid colors, and then put the visual divider back in. It's great that you have plenty of money and time, you will need both. :)

I agree with Julirs on how to introduce. That is the method we use also. But, I must add some females are still too small at a year. I take weight into account as well, and never breed anything under 55 grams. Are the two from separate bloodlines? How did you buy them from...we drove out from NV for that show too :)

Yes my two chamelions are from the same blood line... There both the same age.... Does it matter they are from the same blood line......?

Is there anyone out there that can tell me if it matters that my two veilds are from
The same blood line... Male, female veilds i'm lookin to breed

It causes a great chance for them to be deformed. It would also be like having babies with your cousin. But my female veiled is looking for someone.:D

LOl, Im not sure Reptile Genetics Is quite the same! :) I think you have to inbreed for several, perhaps many generations before any genetic defects became apparent. Maybe Dave Weldon Knows?

Incidently Thats a stunning Cham Mod! Love the 2nd pic! :)

Sry i cant P.M. you so i was just wondering where you live incase you want to breed your female with my m year old male veiled.

I dont know, I dont breed. But I am pretty sure by breeding her with a health problem you would be cutting her life short. You should do more research before trying to breed your chameleon in every other thread.

Didn't you have a thread where this was being discussed already?

If she has a back problem, I would not recommend breeding her. It would be very bad fro her possibably even killing her.

okay, so every1 just broke out into their own conversaion.....?? no one even gave me a solid responce.... does any1 know if its okay to breed my two sunburst x turquoise veilds if they are from the same blood line???

Modkrew- IMHO it is a matter of ethics. Would I ever breed any chameleon from the same bloodline? NO! NEVER! Could the offspring have genetic defects? possibly. Is it worth taking the chance? in my opinion, no. Veileds are very easy to come by, I would by another from another line if you are that set on breeding. I will also say, when it came to selling the offspring, IMHO it is your obligation to let buyers be aware that they were produced this way. There is already enough deceitfulness and drama in this business to leave that crucial bit of info out to your prospective buyers.

I totally agree.. Inbreeding is never a good idea
