Brusing

Kevin has arrived on our doorstep with a lot of issues - 3 types of worms, malnourished, dehydrated, severly under weight ... to list a few. One concern is his bruising (at least that is what i believe it to be). Here are two photos:

This is Kevin when he is displaying his lighter colors and how the mark appears:

Can anyone provide any feed back confirming this is indeed a bruise and if there is anything I can do to aid in the healing?

Nah he is fine. Any slight scuff and they turn black for a while. When i get them in the mail their head ridges are always black from rubbing in the bag/cup. Give him a couple of days and it should go back to color.

I'm not so sure in this case. Are the edges of the discolored area raised, curled, or puffy at all? A bruise should show no difference in scale pattern or skin texture from the unbruised skin around it because the bruise is just blood under the surface. This area looks like it has more of an edge to it, but maybe I'm wrong. Looking close up in person might tell the difference. There's a possibility it is an old injury scar. Was he wc?

I find it odd it changes color... Its possible its an old tong scare or old burn. It didnt look puffy to me at all in the 2nd pic. if I didnt know better i would think the pics were taken weeks apart with the 2nd pic being healed.

Looks like a burn to me, noticing the burned scales along his back.

poor cham, glad you're trying to give him a better life! Shows allot when members rescue a helpless cham.

Good luck and keep us updated if you find out what that mark is. I'm sure a vet visit will always do the trick, also a few vets on this forum may chime in aswell.

Yea, I've never seen a bruise get lighter, it stays black regardless of what the rest of the chameleon is doing. It does look like something else. What it is exactly, I don't know, it could be a number of things. Has your vet told you anything about it?

The vet felt it was a bruise and the edges are slightly wrinkled but it seems as though he is dry...we are working on hydrating him and plumping him up a little he is Wild caught and his basking lights are well away from him at least a foot maybe he will shed it off eventually:)
