Build progress...how are we doing?

Details on the lighting:

as per chameleonacademy.com a single T5 HO Arcadia 12% in a single reflector 7” above the top of enclosure gives no more than UVI 6 inside the enclosure and a usable UVI of 1-3 from 5” inside to 25” deep into the cage. Thus 12”-32” below the fixture should be a huge gradient of UVI 1-3, the ideal range!

I have gone with 8.5” to provide a safety factor given the huge gradient provided by the 12%

Basking at 6” below top of enclosure, for a total of 14.5“ below fixture and thus everything above vegetation should be in the preferred UVI 1-3 and no usable space above UVI 6

Your good on your levels. Once you get a solarmeter you will know them for sure but you are in the right ranges. Are you securing the temp gauge with tape? If so its gotta go. Also you will do better with digital ones that have a probe you can use tiny zip ties to secure it to the branches. Also metal gets hot to the touch.

It’s not staying...

Okay, so here we go.

As mentioned earlier my daughter and I are getting a chameleon, she’s almost twelve and a great kid. We searched for Veiled breeders high and low always thinking that FLChams appeared to be the best of the “commercial” breeders.

She wasn't in love with what the had available and we had some time (a planned vacation, research, and enclosure and supplies to gather and assemble. We got back from vacation and promptly started to assemble all of our waiting goods.

Then, Tuesday night she sees that they have fresh 2 month baby Naval Bloodlines, her favorite of all the genetic offerings! Not wanting to miss out, I text flchams, no response. So later that nigh I order a little boy and include the message in the comments to please contact me prior to shipping. At this point he’s paid for and I have a generic confirmation email, great! I figure I’ll set up deliver for early next week, give us a chance to button up the details, get food, and from what I’ve seen, shipping seems to be more reliable earlier in the week.

Wake up Wednesday to an email from UPS saying I have a shipment from FLChams, delivery for Thursday by 10:30!!! Leave work early, get Penelope, run to get crickets and dubia roaches and gutt loading supplies because the fridge is still empty from vacation... We finish everything up around 10:30 wed. night, 12 hours to go, we’re pumped!

Get up Thur am, I go to work planning to be home by ten. Then UPS email, severe weather delay...long story shorten’d, he’s sitting in Milwaukee as I type. Delay 24hrs. until tomorrow.

Finally got a little communication from FLChams. I missed their call, after I had texted them between calls to UPS. They then sent me text briefly assuring me he would be alright and that they were on vacation down in the Keys.

No pick up options, we’re stuck hopefully waiting to see if he’s okay. Sounds like there’s a pretty decent chance he’ll be okay.

Positive thoughts sent your way...
Hopefully he is indoors and not where he will get too warm. I am sure your daughter and you are very nervous.
When you get him... Might be better to pick him up from your hub rather then let them deliver him. Just in case he ends up in a hot truck all day. So mist down the cage really well so there is water on the leaves. Fill your feeder run. Then put him in. He will need to drink and eat.

Fingers crossed for yall that there are no issues.

My fingers are crossed for you! You've done such a great job researching and setting everything up. Keep us posted!
