buying a panther chameleon ?

lol. Those are the SAME photos! You need to take some clearer photos, not repost the same ones. Reposting the same ones does nothing for us, we already said we can't tell from those!

Yeah read, he heard! This forum has sponsors here and the ppl here recommend to other people because they have dealt with them before. This is what people recommend, not trying to take other business down or anything.

So I emailed Reptile Depot earlier today (before I even came across this post) because I was actually interested in the red and blue bar ambilobes that they are offering right now. They say that they have red and blue bars, so in the email I asked them a few questions like if they had BOTH clutches of blue bars and red bars or if they were all just jumbled up ambilobes? I also asked them if they could sex them and if they were related. They sent me an email back saying that yes they have both red and blue bars separate, that they CAN sex them and that they are NOT related.....Hmmmm. That would be pretty bad if they were related and they were just telling me no so that I would be more likely to buy a pair. Anyways, I think im going to email them back to see if they can tell me where exactly they came from.

Some of the colors in one pic look male...but that is not really reliable as we have seen some really colorfull fems here...And in one photo the colors look completley typical of a female... I still see no bulge at the base of the tail, but that is not to say it isn't there... Once you manage to post a clear pic we will have a better idea. From the clearest of the pics...the first one you posted... I would say that definately looks female.

Regardless... You have an awesome cham... Hate to ask...but can you also post pics of your setup?

Thanks,
Joe

well if they can sex them and panterkid asked for a male and they sent him a female they need to chickity check themselves.

he posted some pics of the setup yesterday in one of his threads, but im not saying i dont stil wanna see more so we can see how things are arranged.

I think pantherkid needs to take "learn how to listen class." Im just playing man. Don't take it personal :D I'm still waiting for him to post pics onto his thread instead of us having to click on the link.

i am voting male, im not sure why there are pictures of his feet. Veilds are the ones that develop tarsal spurs. Not panthers. Try taking pictures of him/her fired up (usually you can just take them outside in some sunlight) and the base of the tail please.

Have any of you guys ever bought a panther chameleon from reptile depot?
No.
In general I don't recommend pet stores as a source for chameleons. However, reptile depot does have good prices on supplies and I have purchased from them a few times.

note: this thread was moved from the husbandry forums

Well, they emailed me back that the ambilobe babies came from "two breeders we work with..." and thats it. SO...doesn't tell us much I guess

About reptile depot though I got my CB pygmy from them, the only thing I didnt like was they said they could not tell me the sex. I know now its pretty easy to tell if your expirenced. You can call them too, I had a few convos with them over the phone before I ordered.

p.s.- not all of us have photo skills, take it easy on the newbies,I know how they feel

You would think that if they really wanted to appeal to the chameleon keepers crowd that they would let you know where they get their amazing chams. Something smells fishy... oh thats me:p

I guess they are just trying to rope in newbies. No offense to anyone.

I'm with you on that one. It is smelling a little fishy, and it isn't just you!

I know that I wouldn't buy an animal from there. I didn't know how to sex a pygmy before talking to Juli but it is SO incredibly simple now that I know, easier than sexing panthers. If they can't sex pygs, I would be a little concerned about everything else, animal wise.

This is actually common with pet stores. Try asking lllreptile or any other reseller for details on where they acquired their chameleons. From a business perspective it makes since for them not to provide that info.
