cage help

i know,I already have serveral plants that need moveing around and some cliping growing and some plants i want to buy out of my pocket&it will probly be a vailed chameleon.Idk if it is helpful but I live in florida.
It will be much easier just to build a tall, rectangle cage instead of a corner cage. You had some pretty good ideas though and could probably work if the 11 and 15 inches were more like 3'. Good luck with whatever you choose :)

the intire point is for it to fit in the corner or else i wouldnt design it to fit in one what if i made a frame and screened it? I need to go thrift store shoping..

maby someone can post pics of cages they have madeive lightly skimed around and didnt see many but im new to this site so maby I wasnt looking in the right spot..

I figured that, but it's like chappymcchap said, once your cham is grown it won't have much room to maneuver around because the cage will be so skinny. The only way for this to work out where you and your cham to be happy is if you changed the walls from being 11 or 15 inches to around 3'. If you don't believe us take a tape measurer and mark your dimensions in the corner where you want to place the cage. I was going along with it for a while because I got thrown off by the drawing ; the front panel isn't nearly up to scale with the other dimensions.

im still in the drawing/planing stage&getting ideas so Ive got time to figure out what will work best for the little fella befor I even start building or buy anything at all.maby I could make a 5 or 8 feet up aginst the wall then have it exstened up wards but only me a screened fram not intire pices of wood...idk like I said still planing&getting info&ideas

Alright well just keep working on it...you'll figure something out.

I got it!8ft high&the sides are going to be 45inches each(like my 1 idea but wider.will that work?
If you are talking about the sides being 45" comparted to 11 or 15" then yes I am sure that would be big enough, but I can't say for sure. Never tried or seen a cham in a corner enclosure or heard of any recommended dimensions, but 45" is very long so it sounds like it would make adequate room for an adult male Veiled to roam and not feel boxed in.

Ok new question how do I water proof plywood(not pine or ceder)?
also how thick should the plywood be?

Your best bet is to use melamine. I hear it can become quite heavy for building large cages but it's water resistant. If you used plywood you would have to stain it to make it water resistant but I wouldn't take the chance of having that type of stuff around my chameleon IMO. I think you could also build styrofoam over the plywood to block out the water, but I don't have any experience in that. So like I said best bet would probably be to use Melamine, it's heavy but it's probably the safest and easiest way to go.

can a cham cage be near a door to the outside or will the wind or something make it unhappy?
There cage should be located in a low traffic area. So if you are talking about placing him next to a door that is regularly used then that is probably not a good idea.

Just jumping into this thread....

Building your own "display" cage is a VERY complex process.....if you just want to build a simple screen cage with wood posts, you can seal the wood using any basic wood sealer and you will be fine. If you are using plyboard and will have running water, you need to generally use an epoxy.

I have a very complex project with photos over in this thread: https://www.chameleonforums.com/meg...-3x3x8-build-log-64531/index6.html#post725815 That may give you some ideas, feel free to hit me up if you have any questions. As a starter though, you may want to start with a basic screen cage for simplicity (AND COST!).

I have to disagree with using melamine....it works fine but it looks very gaudy imo. It is used common in snake setups where "display" is not a concern and easy cleanup is more important, but for looks and cost I think 2x2 or plyboard builds are better for cham setups.

If you would like design or engineering help, I am now offering consultation and design services. I can make sure your plans are structurally/mechanically/etc sound or I can make you appropriate plans based on your requirements. PM me for more details :)

I can agree by what you mean as far as melamine looking gaudy. I currently have an idea though that I think will blow a lot of people's minds. I just need some extra money to start building this cage and I think it will be an incredible setup for my Veiled, and it will hide the gaudy look. Can't wait to get it done to post pics of it :D
