Just jumping into this thread....
Building your own "display" cage is a VERY complex process.....if you just want to build a simple screen cage with wood posts, you can seal the wood using any basic wood sealer and you will be fine. If you are using plyboard and will have running water, you need to generally use an epoxy.
I have a very complex project with photos over in this thread: https://www.chameleonforums.com/meg...-3x3x8-build-log-64531/index6.html#post725815 That may give you some ideas, feel free to hit me up if you have any questions. As a starter though, you may want to start with a basic screen cage for simplicity (AND COST!).
I have to disagree with using melamine....it works fine but it looks very gaudy imo. It is used common in snake setups where "display" is not a concern and easy cleanup is more important, but for looks and cost I think 2x2 or plyboard builds are better for cham setups.
If you would like design or engineering help, I am now offering consultation and design services. I can make sure your plans are structurally/mechanically/etc sound or I can make you appropriate plans based on your requirements. PM me for more details
do you know how thick the wood should be or dose it not matter?
