ive been trying to do my own research, but ill find some sites where certain morphs are a couple hundred dollars, and other sites where the same morphs are $40? whats the difference?
also, at the petstore, they have about 30 in a single tank of all sorts of colors, would there be a possibility theres some sort of better than normal morph in that bunch?

I can't help you with this...but I say, get a crestie!

too expensive! lol. even the package deals, i only want one to start and i cant find any under $60 without $40 shipping..i seriously have $50 max extra cash :/ ill take crestie donations though ;)

My babies might hatch within the next few weeks... And I certainly can't care for 4 extra geckos, whatever my husband thinks.

I candled the eggs again today, and I could see them swishing their tails about! Feels like my first sonogram! And I found a pic of our Teeny Beebee, when he was small enough to justify the name... they are gonna be soooooooo cute.

awee :) congrats! are they leopards or cresties?

Cresties, there are pics of their parents on another thread. The guy I bought the Senegal from would have swapped her for one of my cresties, but no chance! I didn't spend thousands shipping my reptiles to the US to give one away to a strange man who smells a lot like cannabis and can't look after a chameleon.

Do you shop at somewhere like Petco and have a rewards card? Because they usually have cresties and every so often they'll have a discount with the rewards card, where they may be 50% off. As it is their cresties sell for ~$60 so with the discount you can get one for half that. It's what my boyfriend did and got a beautiful little girl that has like goldish-tan tiger stripes on brown. I've also gotten a couple cute ones from Petco, so if you're not morally opposed to shopping there it may be your cheapest option after checking out a reptile show.

As far as gecko morphs, it's a mess that I was happy to get out of lol Who can keep up with the 13 different designer names for different types of albino is beyond me. But if you have a specific question, like why is X twice as much as Y I may remember why and be able to help.

i like petco, just not the way they treat their chameleons. i occasionally get crix there sometime but dont have a rewards card, ill have to get one..but the cresties sell so fast there, they usually never have deals on them or id of gotten a card by now :/ but i will keep my eyes open :) lol and theres no specific question about the leopard morphs, but i just find it weird a blizzard can go for $300 on one site, and $75 on another? same with other morphs..

Yea, I know. Some will price them higher because of reputation, just like the Kammers can sell a panther cross for as much as a pure while everyone else has to sell them for a lot less. I know that when I was looking for albino fat tailed geckos they also ranged from $50 to anything upwards of $500, depending on reputation and amount of orange. Granted, some were spectacularly orange but most look just the same. I managed to find some bright orange ones for about $70 each, and I was happy. But I know what you mean about having a hard time finding affordable geckos, everything is heterozygous for one thing or another that makes the gecko $200 more expensive than one that isn't lol. It's a lot of silliness, if you ask me.

Agh Im so glad im not the only one who thinks this is insane.

I want leopard geckos at some point, and I love the snow and blizzard morphs. Some places I find have them for like 40 plus shipping.. others for lke 100 plus shipping and it goes even higher.

I dont understand it.

lol yea! i just got a new job, so after i pay the debt ive collected while i was unemployed, ill be looking into getting a female jackson and a pair of leopards :) if im lucky, maybe i can choose a few higher end ones out of the bunches petco has..just have to keep doing research on my morphs..

It seems like geckos are always het for this or that, and it makes finding a gecko in the morph you want as a pet for an affordable amount. I just wanted pet fat tail geckos that happen to be albino, because I like the colors, but they're all het for a type of piebald gene that gives them white socks and now it's a $300 animal. What do I care if they have the genes for white socks? lol I just want pet girls.

I remember just 5 years ago when I got into geckos a bit that fat tail geckos were still sort of unexciting as far as morphs, because only the high end places had the one or two new morphs that went for $2,000 a pop. But now I guess more people have them and now any animal is het for something and it's now a $700-1,000+ lizard. What???

It seems, to me, like the only people buying these expensive animals are other breeders, who end up selling to other breeders, and other breeders, until the price comes down enough for regular folk to get them as small projects or pets. But it seems like one of those businesses where the only people willing and interested in paying that much for a little gecko are other breeders, so they can also have the animals for sale, and in the end the general public opts out for a few years until breeders themselves have driven the prices down enough just by competing with each other.

I concur with everything Olimpia said.

I just want two little girls as pets. I dont care if they are het this, dominant for that... I jsut want a snow and a blizzard cuz they are pretty.

I refuse to pay 200+ dollars for a gecko!

It's ridiculous!

I bet you would pay $200 for a Chameleon.;):D ha ha. I bet you would if it was that 'special' gecko.

I am going to be paying $125 for a breeding pair of Crested Geckos this weekend or mid next week.

i would pay 200 fora chameleon... but thats totally differetn IMO. :D

I wont opay that much for a gecko.. unless it had gold babies. lol.

i like cresties too.

Geckos don't do as much though lol I have my three gecko girls and they don't do ANYTHING, fat tails are the laziest geckos known to man! haha

It's funny the things we pay for if they're your priority. I wouldn't pay much for a gecko but would (and have) paid $200-500 for a chameleon. Anything more than that I wouldn't. But on the other hand, I have paid almost a grand for each of my dogs, so it's funny where you sink money according to your priorities!

totally agree!

The chams do more, so ill pay more, my dog does more so I paid 800 dollars for him from a breeder.

Geckos.. sit there.. maybe scamper around a bit.. at night, when im asleep.

I payed 300 for each one of my DB morph breeders. And they were babies when I got then. The price of geckos is how hard it is to make them there is a lot of steps in making some morphs like typhoons ,radars, Mack raptors..ect. it may take one breeders up to 10 pairing to finally get the morph they were working on that's were the price comes in and how clean the patterns are and if there is no paradox spots. Or if a new gene has been expressed... The list goes on.lol... And no not all geckos are HET. For something. You have to make them HET. For something. You can find solid stand alone morphs with no HETs. You just have to search.

Wow you all need to get your geckos something to do lol. Mine are crazy and move around way more then my chameleons and they seem to be interested in everthing that is happening around them. Also leos are not nocturnal as most people state and say they sleep most of the night. They are up around dawn and dusk and a little bit at night. Just like in nature...
