Can Chameleons get crypto?

OK, so my leopard gecko has been diagnosed with Crypto...no idea how or where he got it from. I have a Panther chameleon and basically just wondering do I need to be concerned with him getting this infection from my leopard gecko in anyway what so ever?

I will be disinfecting the gecko's viv with ammonia/Virkon S disinfectant when I get home. I tend to have separate things for each reptile so I'm hoping there won't be any spread of it....

Yes, it is potentially contagious to other reptile species as well unfortunately. A lot of times with crypto anything that was infected I suggest to just throw it out and start over rather than try to disinfect because it's so hard to kill. It's a bummer having to throw out otherwise good supplies, but the risk of killing other or future reptiles is too great in my opinion. This is why it's so important to use good sanitation practices between reptiles, especially of different species (washing hands, no cross contamination of supplies, cage decor, etc).

Thanks for the quick reply. I honestly have no idea where it could of possibly come from...and the worst thing is I have no idea what could possibly be infected. As I said I tend to use separate equipment for each reptile so hopefully there will be no cross contamination...I feel absolutely gutted...I guess all it takes is one small mistake...

Most likely it came from the original breeder/supplier. They can live with it for years sometimes before showing any symptoms, although it tends to be young, stressed geckos that succumb to it the easiest. Certain large chain pet stores have it from their gecko supplier...

Most commonly seen in leopard geckos with chronic severe weight loss and anorexia. The class "skinny tail" syndrome of a gecko with no fat stores anywhere on its body. In end stages they become lethargic and it is fatal even despite supportive care. In snakes it causes regurgitation of meals and potential anorexia. In all species vomiting and weight loss tend to be the main symptoms.
