Hey Sha, i got your message. Just been a lil busy with work. How Henry is doing well. From the pix i have seen of him , it looks like the best bet would be exactly what you are already doing and have him seen by a vet. Is he now haveing issues in both eyes?

to answer your question, yes. JannB has a chameleon that has only one eye and he has been living for many years like that. I think he has to be handfed though.

well his other eye is now all the way closed and he can see out the other one it juss acts up im bout to call the vet now and see what they say i have some of his crapp n a zip lock back ima take that allso he looks sad to me

Yes they can i had a chameleon live 2 years with 1 eye and no problems. Until he escaped and i have not found him since.

They will charge you, that is for sure.

Have you tried terramycin? It has always cleared up any eye funk my chameleons have had. It is like magic :)

was your cham able to hunt? I just had my chams left eye (most of it) removed yesterday, and we are unsure if she will be able to hunt later on - how did your cham do? i see you say "no problems" is that with his eye, or with his hunting?

I am so sorry to hear that Henry is still having eye problems. I would highly recommend some vitamin A and a better chameleon vet. My little man Jr had an eye injury when he was four months old and had to have his right eye ball amputated. Jr will be four years old next mount and has lived a happy life.

I'm attaching a couple articles from my vets blog about vitamin A. You might find them very helpful.

He tried his best, he would shoot his tongue and all but i had to help him locate his food or even put it close to his mouth. Sometimes he would just chomp it off my hands... got my finger once :(. I mean no health problems from it or him getting worse from only having one eye.

well thanks jan that helped alot now when i went to the website they got a lot of different types of meds some with d3 some without idk which one 2 order and a lot of them dont have chameleons on the front of the label:(

but henrys is doing great he ate a large horn worm 2day and 10 wax worms and still is able 2 hunt his crickets in his tank with that one good left eye i see him rubbing the right one a lot...the manger in pet land told me 2 mix 50% hydrogen peroxide and 50% water take the q tip and try to clean his eye with that i wanted 2 try to open it with something and try to use the meds they gave me the first time cause now i stop using it it looks worse then it looked b4

so please give me feed back me and henry need it and thank you all very much!!

Also PICTURES, we need pictures of the infected eye.

We also need to hear about your husbandry for the chameleon so we can further evaluate any problem that may be causing the chameleons stress.

One other thing I would like to address with everyone on this post, most people are saying chameleons can live with one eye, this is true I am sure. But we have not determined if the OP has correct care, housing, temps, plants, ext. so I think we really need to make sure all of that is correct before we go saying that the chameleon will be okay with one eye. We need to make sure the chameleon has the proper environment to thrive with the disability.

For example, if one eye went bad how do we know the next won't also? There must be an unsolved reason why the chameleon is having the eye issue that we have yet to address.

:) I don't mean to sound bossy or rude I just don't want us to assure something that we can't be absolutely sure on.[/QUOTE]

Thanks everyone

Supposing the vet takes care of any infection or other issues and the eye is still unusable, they can live long lives with only one. Your husbandry needs to be correct, and he may or may not learn to hunt with only one eye so you may need to cup feed or hand feed for the rest of his life.

Be sure to get him to the vet and have it checked out. If you cannot afford to pay for his bills all at once, ask the vet about payment plans. Many good vets offer them for owners who clearly care for their animals but cannot pay large bills.

As fir the terramycin, it can work, but it depends on what is wrong with the eye. I assume you have tried flushing the eye with a sterile plain saline solution. If not, try it while you wait for the vet appointment. It will help clear the eye of any debris or gunk that may be in there.

I agree with that. I suggested the terramycin if a vet visit cost to much.
