Can U Explain this Pic

This seems like blatant irresponsibility, borderline abuse. Why would you even let them be out together, let alone in any situation where they're touching each other? One of them could have been seriously hurt. Some words come to mind.. but I imagine i'd get an infraction for them.

i hate to see someone get slammed like this from everyone on the forums, but ya, its a little "not okay" to see that you did this, and also, hopefully you expected responses like these to pictures like those.

*sigh* Whos casting stones today? Did somebody say 'Jehova'? :)

Normal Behaviour from two different species interacting, 'species confusion', as Pure said.
Big deal folks, its not like a bloody dogfight afterall. No cruelty or neglect was intended.
He/She simply didnt consider the possibility they might harm each other.

Do closely check the health of the veiled however, the leg just looks unshed to me, the blackish area may be another unshed layer, or shadow? It may or may not be somewhat under hydrated, a close check will determin.

Put the pitchforks and flaming torches away, "Posse" Free Zone! :D

*There comes a dissappointed mumble in unision from the crowd as they head off to burn down the mill instead* Ala The Simpsons :D

Well in anycase...I do knw wat im doin...again they are 2 males so thereis no breeding going on...my chams see each other and are out together on a regular basis not in touchin distance but visibility...but anyway...im sure that there is really not a set "RULE" saying that u cant have 2 chams out together on short periods of time...as u can see in the picture they where standing together face to face with no agressive behavior...again i was right there so....and 2 I am very aware of the foghtin consiquenses so thanks for some of u guys' input and i expected comments like these...so no hard feelings 2wards anyone... :)

This is no joke to me. We lost one of our most beloved male Chams because one of our Veils was essentially raping him. It caused damage we couldn't cure.

@JoJackson... Translucent Veiled.

What are the begginers at home with more than one cham going to think when they saw the guy at the pet store letting his males of dif species crawl on each other like that? "It's fine, the guy at the pets tore was did it." Sounds dumb, but you would be surprised. There are worse things you could have done I imagine, but this not something that should be encouraged by anyone IMO. All it takes is a second or two for things to get ugly.

Well there you go, its one of those translucent frankenstein things, theres nothing wrong with its leg afterall. Thanks for the clarification :)

Maybe they'd think, 'thats a bad idea'. Why assume everyone is incapable of independant thought? Do you work for the government? did you wear a seatbelt on the way to work this morning? do you read tags on appliencences like hairdryers that advise 'do not use in shower!!!'? :)
Ofcourse, had
one cham, chewed the head off the other, Im sure he wouldnt have made a habit of doing it , hence 'bad examples' dont have a long shelf life anyway.
Nobody in the thread encouraged it. :)
The darwin candidate who uses a cigarette lighter for illumination in a gas oven, isnt setting a good example either, but does he really need to be told? :D

jojackson,

sadly the only tags that americans pay attention to is "dry clean only".
I'm telling you, people are dumb here. no joke.

If you go in the everyday petstore... and ask around to customers and even employees... I am willing to bet the number of people who know about the proper care of chameleons, is dwarfed by the number of people you find who have little to no knowledge of chameleons at all. It is not incredibly common for people to take "lizards" as seriously as we do. HUGE numbers of people buy one on a whim, are misinformed or mislead in how to care for it, it dies, and the buy something else.. Having worked in shops in the past I have seen this. Parents replacing dead pets like broken toys. The vendor needs to be a good example in husbandry at all times IMO, cause this is where the people who don't know any better get their pets, and info.

Letting it get to the point in the pic... on the counter of a pet store, and taking pics is as good as encouraging it in my book. You would be surprised how many pet owners, use the pet store as their source of care info, especially new owners. Not everybody knows Forums like this are available. I am not assuming the world to be complete idiots, but it does not take a complete idiot to make mistakes in an animals care, normal misinformed people make these mistakes. I didn't want to go this long as I don't want to seem like I am railing on Rickky, just trying to clarify myself to Jo"Last Word"Jackson.;)

You guys can go on and "rail" as long as you please...Im positiveI know wat im doin...My customers not interested in gettina cham 100% at all...but any how...Im sure that ill get remarks all over the place but when it all boils down to it...I knw wat to do wat not to do and when to do it...the veiled did not penetrate or watever...he was jus on top...again i knw how to read the behavior of my chams and see when enuf is enuf...so again "rail" on that wat seems to light some peoples fire and make them feel better...

Rofl! I hear you. Riccky definately hears you!
No need to clarify your thoughts for my benefit, I understand perfectly, I just dont care! :)
Riccky in fairness, one day ,one may simple freak at the other and attack it savagely infront of your customer, dude,
not a great way to sell an animal. Just be a little careful maybe. It was more the size difference than the species difference that alarmed me, even though I said nothing. Post a pic of a dead or seriously mangled cham on that counter, and your on your own.
You might beleive you can predict what the lizards will do, but do they know that?
You took a snapshot of, and shared with us, a unique look at the behaviour of two different species of chameleon interacting,
If Sir David Attenborough did that for a new documentary, Id still watch it! I found it fascinating and enjoyed thinking about how they might've behaved, had they been alone and left to their own devices.
That said, its been made clear this is not something thats a good idea to do on a regular basis. But,
thats no reason you cant display two different species for a customers comparison. Maybe you could rig up the counter in such a way that you could display both, but a few feet from each other.
Then they can still compare, the chams cant fight and worst (or best, depending how you look at it) that you will get, is males showing territorial /dominance /threat/defensive displays.
How often you do that, and weather continued natural stress like that effects the animals health, is another matter.
:)
