Can't believe my eyes!!!Panther in bad shape!

REPORT THEM. You can report them to aspca in your area and with any luck they will be investigated. At the very least you took action.
From my experience and off hand stories, there is very little they will do. More often than not they won't even check unless it's a dog or cat... or similar...

im on long island too where is he ?? id love to go show them a healthy cham i might even just walk out with him let me know soon that is just awful i wish these people would just read a friggin book or at least a simple care sheet

D n J reptiles route 107 in seaford... Man if you can get that cham outa there what a favor you would be doing that animal!!!

i do feel that way as well. It is really about cats and dogs. id like to give them a piece of my mind but it wont stop anything.

Any way to find out who the breeder is? Maybe s/he wouldn't supply chams to this shop if s/he knows how they're being treated there.

They would not be doing a favor, however, for any future animals that are purchased because they think chameleons are good to sell.

I'd think about calling the spca anyway, and maybe get some friends to as well. If they don't know about it, they can't do anything about it. If they know and do nothing -- well, at least you tried. Just a thought.

Omg!

OMG! That is horrible... you said these pics are not even great quality but you can tell they are in terrible condition! Sick! And very sad to know that they are stuck in a pet store with such more care being given and then employees who either don't give a rats or are just to ignorant to educate themselves.

I was at my local pet store for supplies this w/e and they also had two Chams there... I felt sorry for them and they atleast looked in decent shape for the most part!

Report for sure!

I think I will make an attept to report this store thanx for the idea in a horribly helpless situation. Kshook they won't stop I've seen I've seen a previous panther they had laying at the bottom of his cage feet under eyes closed and they said he was ok. They have a breeder who gives them a steady supply of chams so I doubt they are loosing much if their chams die. I have no respect for these clowns out for a dollar at the expense of a life that can't speak up for itself or attempt to survive on it's own. And the worst part is if I was one who didn't know better and I wanted to purchase the animal they would still charge a couple hundred dollars.

Yes, I think trying to report it to anyone who may have some authority and will listen is atleast a step in the right direction. Crappy thing is there is a "BREEDER" who supplies them! Shame on who ever that is!

That chameleon is on their last legs. Sorry, but the "authorities" in this case most likely are not well informed w/reptiles. I recall a store getting in trouble for not having a water dish in a chameleon cage....

They do have a croc and baby gators maybe that would give reason for an ASPCA visit along with the chams in bad shape but they most likely have permits for them. But I do doubt they have experience withe many reptiles. I do think much responsibility is in the hands of the breeder but the owner has stated to me twice that the breeder is a friend of his.

That's terrible

I wouldn't spend 10 cents in their store, since what they're doing to the chams is horrible.
I'm also on LI and I've resigned myself to the fact that chams are not inexpensive to keep or feed, since there are really no good local sources of feeders, that I'm aware of.
It takes a bit of the "sting" out of shipping fees to buy as many different types of feeders as you can use, in one large order.
I like Mulberry Farms for variety (just click on"view our sponsors") , but recently bought a nice assortment of Butterworms from Gesang of Chameleons Northwest:

Oh schnap, that cham wont make it. Sad to think that they were still trying to sell it. . . . Wow... That really is sad.

Hurry and report them. That picture is so sad and really disgusting :( Those people are sick. I would post that picture on a flyer and say do not go to this petstore or something like that so the word gets out more. :(

When you say "get that animal out of there" please don't try to buy it. Looking at the way it is almost dangling by it front feet I think it is almost dead, past caring, and may not even be aware of its misery. Once when I saw a terrible cham situation in a bad shop I went back when the shop would be very busy with lots of customers around (like a Saturday afternoon). I went up to the cham and shouted for all to hear "Oh gross! This animal is amost DEAD! You don't know anything about how to care for it. This shop is CRUEL and ignorant!" Then made sure I was overheard by others and stalked out. At least it made me feel a tiny bit better to know that others heard me and possibly some shop staff were embarrassed.

That is horrible. Poor little cham will most likely not make it if an experienced owner doesn't purchase it soon..

I second this..i think this will be the best thing to do!! put one outside their shop on the other side of the road lol that way they will know they will have to book their ideas up if they want their customers..don't think they will want more flyers out and about..

OH those photos are heartbreaking! He's really in bad shape! What if you were to write a very kind, gentle-handed email to the pet store owner. You could also include a few links to some chameleon care information. If your kind enough, and maybe through an email, he/she might be open minded enough to learn some new husbandry practices.

 i just saved two turtles today common snapper and 3 toed box turt i just love animals and this hurts me, not fair that one can operate a store with animals like this, But i would try any means to draw attention even go back and take more pictures, newpaper i live in a small town so i feel a newspaper would draw attention to the store....
