Cham always brown

if you use the zoomed reptisun 5.0 with this setup your cham have zero UVB (i test with solarmeter) if you want to keep this kind of setup go with uvb 150 from exoterra or if you have $ go with sunray 5.0HO or arcadia 5.0HO. Good luck with your little ;)

98 is way too hot, but you need to measure it where your chameleon will be feeling the heat. That is why you need to set up a branch and check the basking spot on the heated branch. That is the temp you chameleon will feel. It does not even look like he can get under the lights. Make sure you do not put the branch too close as they can burn, especially on their casques.
Well many times I see him climbing on the cage sides or top so he is getting hot for sure

And yes it can If i where you i would have gotten an umbrella tree or a phothos unless you have the right lights the leaves will fall off this sun loving tree.
My first choice was a Hibiscus plant but they are hard to find in MA right now. I went to Lowes Home Depot and called many local nurseries. They all said next month. Ugh. I can give the Ficus to my roommate, he loves plants

Did you ask Home Depot if they had any umbrella plants? I was just able to pick one up for my cham on Monday and they had tons of them there, so hopefully yours would have one. They may be seasonally stocked items, I'm not sure, but I'm in VT so hopefully if mine had them in yours would as well.

Well after buying the Ficus, at least he can hide from me now (but still brown.) I bought a humidity gauge and another temperature gauge today. There were no branches/sticks at the store.
