my beloved chameleon has fallen ill and i don't know what to do. i have a feeling it might be MBD but im not entirely sure! he suddenly wont climb in the branches anymore either, he will only crawl around the floor. also it looks like the pigment towards his tail is going white (and its not like a skin shedding colour or look). also as far as i can see he is not eating or drinking. or at least not how he used to. he is a rescue as one of my friends was neglecting him and didnt want him anymore. please help me out guys cheers.

here is a pic sorry is blurry dont want to disturb him right now

i think you need at least a screen front for the guy. is there no screen at all? chams need constant airflow in their enclosure so if it is all wood and glass its not sufficient. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forums! Your chameleon is actually female, and she does appear to have MBD and since she is a mature female she may have eggs as well. Can you get some closer pictures?

Really need to see some close ups of your chameleons limbs. The front legs look kinda curvy but hard to tell from your pics. His eyes looks sunken in also but again hard to see from the pic you provided. If he will not drink, try dripping water directly on his nose with an eye dropper ort using your dripper positioned over his head. Sorry he is not doing well.

you are right! Took a better look But then it looks like there could be spurs also???

I have used Nutrabol to the detriment of my chams. ( long time ago) it contains d3 and should only be given twice a month.

no pics! Also, are there spurs(little points) on the back heels? It almost looks like it in the picture. If so, you have male. The markings looks more female but again more pics will help.

Yes, definitely MBD and her eyes look sunken in. She could have eggs also, but hard to tell from the pics.

Oh goodness, yes that is definitely MBD.

That is probably why she/he has difficulty moving.

You mentioned spurs, but in the first pictures the chameleon looks like it is very upset or gravid, ready to lay eggs.

I would honestly just take it to a vet. A good reptile vet in your area shouldn't be too hard to find. The MBD isn't super severe, but there is obviously something else going on too, either that or the MBD is taking it's toll.

well would it be a good idea to put a pot in there incase of eggs? and what would be the best substrate to use?

I do see spurs in the picture, but sometimes females have veryyyy tiny spurs, and sometimes males don't have spurs at all.

It just depends.

I wouldn't put a pot in there until you 100% know it is female, because especially with a mineral deficiency like MBD it's going to want to eat the dirt to get the minerals.

My chameleon tried to snack on dirt to get more calcium (at least that's what I'm guessing) but recently I've boosted up his calcium a bit and he stopped even going to the bottom of the cage.

Really a vet is good. Your chameleon is tired/has no energy, severe MBD, light coloration, and appears to be sleeping in the day. I'm not trying to be rude but there really is not another option. You can't choose to simply "fix" the issue by putting a pot in the enclosure.

A vet is what you need.

this is pretty much exactly what i'm going to say, i would like to had she looks dehydrated too. And maybe rethink the enclosure and find out how you let this happen. I see tiny heel bumps but it still looks female to me.

yes i completely agree!!! i just want to make it as comfortable for her/him until i can take to the vets tomorrow, they close on sunday where i live :/ she/he was seeming better but has now gone back to the corner of the cage like my first picture. obviously all im worried about now is getting him/her trough the night so i can go to the vets first thing tomorrow. is there anything i should be doing?
also thanks so much you guys! really nice and quick responses

he/she has only been with me for 2 months, she was upsettingly malnourished when i got rodger. and up untill now he/she has been making great progress. i have now bought a mesh enclosure that i will have tomorrow. i have noticed when he/she is on the ground she is kind of constantly moving her front legs, almost like she might be trying to dig

Hmm, in the first pic the color is very female, but in those other pictures the coloration looks more male. Can you post a picture of the whole body from the side? The caresheet has a good picture of the spur on the back of the male's foot. Do you see that on yours?

you can see faint bars in the one pic that the males have and I think those are spurs but the pics are unclear. Would be good to determine male or female so atleast you can rule out eggs and all that go along with it.
