Chameleontips - plagiarism and copyright piracy

Seriously

As a photographer I have had to take precautionary measures to protect my photos from being passed over the internet. This is a serious issue. I am sure some of the other photographers can relate to the above infringed copywright material.

http://www.dotcomsecrets.com

The nameserver used by chameleontips is DOTCOMSECRETS.COM.
This nameserver controls over 325 different domains.
William Wright seems to be associated with over 375 domains.

Is this the result of some late night infomercial?

What is the addy of the blog? Perhaps we should all go and check for pictures of our pets.

No Kidding! I would really hate to find a pic I took being used wothout permissions. I hate to think that I am going to have to empty my entire photobucket... and watermark everything, just to keep people honest. I am not using my shots for commercial purposes...But I would be pissed if someone else was! RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!

Thanks. I, too, spotted a couple things I recognize as being right off the forum. Hope you guys being plagerized can get some respite.

HA! the dumbest thing is she advertise her business site in the forum where most of the original authors reside.
It's like committing a petty theft in front of a police station. :D
Too Funny!!! Karma is a Bi.... ya know what i mean.

perfect example of what "orphan acts" law will do to us in couple of years.
watermark won't be effective.

I've contacted the hosting service being used for this site. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) requires them to respond to copyright complaints and the Online Copyright Infringement Liability Limitation Act (OCILLA) of the DMCA extends safe harbor to OSPs that promptly take down content that someone alleges infringes their copyrights. So its in the OSPs best interest to take my complaint, as the owner of the site some of the content was taken from, seriously. Still no response from the site owner's various aliases. Definitely doesn't help their case!

I've just received an email from Mr. Wright:

"Hello Chris,

First of all I apologize, and thank you for bringing this to my attention. I
assure I was unaware of the copy and pasting that has been happening on this
site. I've recently hired some help to develop some "Unique Content" for the
site and didn't realize that this was stolen from your website.

I've forward the information to my developer and should have the pages down
within the next day or so. I will deal with the employee accordingly.

Once again I apologize for this mishap, and will get the site updated
immediately.

BJ"

We will see exactly what pages he removes (I gave him the full list I posted here but obviously he only mentioned my own website in the email) and how quickly this occurs. Hopefully it will be dealt with appropriately and quickly. I'm also curious to see the content of the EBook to see if it is made of similar material. Does anyone know of anyone who has happened to purchase a copy?

Chris

And another email from the company's webmaster:

"To Mr. Chris Anderson:

We received your email about the copyright issues concerning the site www.ChameleonTips.com . We appreciate it, and I want to convey our apologies for putting your content on the website. We are now dealing with it accordingly. Our content writer for the site has been informed and she will be taking down the pages you cited.

I know that I am be asking much by asking for more patience from you, as it had been more than a week already since you started contacting us about the problem. Again, we are sorry. The writers mainly focus on posting content for the site and do not always look upon the messages on the website. You have our assurances that this will never happen again and that we will pay more attention to our activities and be more accessible. It will take us a few days to get everything down and erase everything that has been copied but we will see to it that it is done.

I would just like to clarify that the content for the Ebook advertised on the website is not lifted out from the contents in the site. The content writer for the website only writes for the website and not for the Ebook. This means that you have no need to worry that your content is also in the Ebook.

Again, we apologize. I will see to it personally that this matter be straightened out with our content writer.

A Good Day to You!

Mary Ann"

Hopefully this information regarding the content of the EBook is true. Anyone know anyone with it?

Chris

I found it hard to believe that a person who disrespectfully ripped other people's articles, claim them her own, and put the articles on her website would bother writing an original book about chameleon cares.
Even if the ebook author is a different person, I would highly distrust him/her who is willing to be associated with the site choked full with plagiarisms.

I propose that we should investigate this further.

This is beyond ridiculous! and downright insulting to our intelligence.
I'm sorry... I got too hyped up when this thing happen.

Hi Chris,

Yes I got the book and have downloaded it...I am trying to work out how to download it here but if you pm me your email I will send it to you and anyone else who has had images or material stolen so you can look over it.

Also when I purchased it I was given another email for William Wright its [email protected]

Chloe
:)

On another note....William Wright would have fully know what his 'hired help' were doing. He hired external link builders/traffic assistants and this is what they do.

Just to update everyone, I took a look at the EBook and despite the guarantee from Mary Ann from Chameleontips.com that my content was not in the EBook, one of the same articles plagiarized on the site, 3 additional E-Zine articles and content from the CCIC was all lifted and used in the EBook as well. I also located content in the book that was lifted from Microsoft Encarta, Reptiles Magazine, Hear.org, a number of herpetological societies, a couple vets, at least one university professor and quite a number of other chameleon information websites. I have sent an email to the legal departments of those companies as well as many of the other individuals. This email was CCed to Mr. Wright and Mary Ann. We will see how they respond but I don't imagine some of those companies take too kindly to this type of thing.

On a brighter note, all the content I pointed out from their website has now been removed so at least that's a step in the right direction!

Chris

the problem is i think they are running there business in south east asia, and chances of actually getting any real action is going to be tuff.

This really is pathetic... I should add this to my .. "You know what I hate..." thread. So now they are blatently lying... Sounds like they tried to assure you the E-Book was clean to keep you from checking into it yourself. It is good that we expose these people...So that even if legal action cannot be taken, We have the Cham Communities Vigilante Justice to make sure that these cheaters are exposed!!! Pitch Forks and Torches I say!!!! RABBLE EVERYONE!!! RABBLE!!!

The business is owned and being run by William (Bill) Wright in Nebraska. He hired link builders/traffic assistants that were based in Asia and that is who chameleontips was....nothing more than hired help to drive traffic to his site to make sales of the ebook.

One way of applying pressure if there is no response is that dotcomsecrets where the nameservers are is hosted, owned and run by Russell Brunson (a 2nd tier internet marketing guru) and William is one of his students. If you go to dotcomsecrets.com you will that he promotes "how to start and grow your online business through proven internet marketing strategies".

Russell would have taught him exactly what to do to get an internet offer up and running and most likely is fully aware of this practice of 'copy, paste and tweak' where you take others work and just change it enough or not at all. Russell has a ton of social media with Facebook, Twitter, Youtube etc. No internet marketer likes any negative press/blogs on theri social sites as they are what drives the business and gets new customers for them and I am sure he would hate any articles posted on his sites about his students being theifs.

Chris if you have no response I am sure there are quite a few people here who would love to post on his social sites....I know I will :D
