ChamEO Clinic begins April 3, 2010

Sorry, Elisa. Didn't mean to hijack....just thought that the Super Show might be a great place for another workshop, etc. (as someone else had suggested) since Dave and the SBCK booth seemed to have such good success. :) What - there isn't an endless supply of green$$ and time like the rest of us have?? (I of course say that in jest....:D)

I'm a smarty pants! :)

To do it the way it was done really couldn't work at a show. Especially having it exclusive to chameleon keepers. It was hours long and the room was set up just for the workshop. It wouldn't be impossible to do at a show, just not simple and not as focused.

And of course money is always the big issue. Sooo many ideas and never enough time/energy/money. :(

Funny enough, whenever I see Ryan, he looks like this. ;) But I will say that he has the stink eye down pat! (Just giving you crap Ryan....)

I really like those glass enclosures in the background (behind Ryan) from Southland. Are they baby enclosures?

Damn I am good looking. Sorry ladies I am taken. :D That look just kinda came with my face. I think its a lazy thing, easiest face to make. No muscle usage at all. LOL

Oh darn.

Ryan actually arranged to have them custom made for me by Southland Reptiles. There are a total of 8 enclosures and two of them are double the size of the rest.

They are used mainly for rehabilitating very sick chameleons, but are also used to monitor newly adopted chameleons before they go to their new homes and for housing newly hatched or born babies. I like this kind of set up for all of these situations because they are very easy to reach into, can help maintain a higher humidity and really easy to clean. Being able to clean them completely is the most important thing.

I love doing that to a ficus. :) I have one pot that I covered in moss that was found in our lawn. The photo here was taken over a year ago. The moss is now covering the fossil and has grown up the thickened tree base.

PlanterMoss_000.jpg

Maybe I can do a more complete demonstration another time using moss, etc. For the first workshop I was so nervous about that video camera and the microphone. And of course all the unflattering photos Kevin must have been taking of me. LOL!

If anyone wants me to pot a tree for them, bring me the pot, the plant and the cage and I will be happy to bonsai it! My style of cham bonsai is not traditional because I form the tree to the enclosure, not to the true form of a mature tree. But over time the roots bring character to the pot landscape and with annual trimming of the branches, you can make an amazing plant for your chameleon, completely custom. If he has a favorite sleeping spot, you can develop a canopy for him with the growth of new leaves. You can also leave his/her favorite spot for basking and eliminate hiding spots for crickets and roaches.

I was into bonsai before chameleons. I love it very much but don't really have the patience it takes to make true bonsai. :)

I thought they looked like Southland's handi-work (that and the sticker on them...:D). I like them and what a nice concept. Funny how Ryan never offers to arrange for them to be made for the rest of us.

:eek:Errrr, maybe I should have said "Ryan arranged it for ChamEO." He was trying to help a non-profit out by using his resources to keep our costs down.

Howdy,

Elisa has done a great job building ChamEO into a full-on, official non-profit organization that has been able to raise corporate funding for these workshops. The fact that the 3 hour session went for 6 hours shows how useful and important it is to have these workshops :). Thank you, Elisa, for your tireless dedication to the chameleon community :D

How'd I miss this really nice post? Wow, if I ever feel like a failure, I'll just come read this thread. lol! Sadly I do get tired sometimes and feel beaten up. But when something like this comes together, I get recharged and feel like I can go forever. My gears are a crankin'!!!

Thanks again Dave and thank you to everyone in SBCK and on CF for helping make it so successful. Without these groups, the word would not get around as fast.

I know. :) Ryan gives me plenty of grief so I figured I could throw some back his way for a change. :p
