just wondered how chams can drink when they want in the wild.it doesnt rain all day and morning dew doesnt stay around all day so how can they drink at these times? just curious

anyone know any good documentary videos on chameleons they could show me??

From the reading it says the native habitat in Madagascar has heavy rainforest where rain happens almost everyday. Besides with the high humidty rain forest you don't need rain everyday for the leaves to gather dew or water. I reckon that dew will be the source for drinking. CMIIW.

JannB just recently went to Madagascar and the native people told her that they have a dry season there and that many, if not most of the chameleons die.

Survival of the fittest.

In the wild, it doesn't rain every day, just like there's days where they don't find any insects. So they just have to take advantage of rain when it does rain, keep themselves hydrated and ready for the dry season, just like bears have to get calories before they hibernate.

Here's a link if you want to know what Madagascar's weather is like

I wonder why we are really worried when the chams don't drink even just for a day here if they may survive few days without water.

I know there are days when my chameleons have not drank. I don't worry about it. If they are thristy, they will drink!!!

Do they see them die, or do they assume they all die when they don't see any chameleons in the dry season? Who knows, maybe the chameleons find a more humid place to hide from the drought, until the rain comes again.

If I'm not mistaken, someone more experienced can correct me if I'm wrong, but chameleons in the wild eat plants and flowers during the dry season as well to rehydrate and whatnot. Again, don't take my word for it, I'm only going from whatever I've read and heard, I have not had experience with wild chameleons.

This happens way too much. This is why many on this forum have overweight chameleons.

I do agree with this, one thing I can say tho is because we all care so much about our chameleons with the feeder and water intake look at the life expectence of a wild panther chameleon ( 2 years or less ) and that of a captive panther (5-6 years for a male). Our constant worrieing allows them to have a healthy and longer life
