Hey all,
Hope you guys had a Happy & safe Xmas and New Year!
Well as some of you may remember, I had to purchase a cham enclosure fromm LLLReptiles as we don't have them here in my Country....Well I was away over xmas and have just finished popeye's new enclosure, hooray!
I made a pine base/box with a door to house water pump and all electricals, timers etc, all out of sight now, unreal. I also took the great idea from one of you guys (trying to recall who that was, but cheers anyway) and installed a pull out drip tray instead of the conventional bucket, you know the one that slides on rails. I'll show you pics of the base and drainage and electrical systems, when I tidy it all up, I literally just finished it and am quite pleased with the results, especially having the old exoterra flexarium as popeye's home for the first 7 months of his life!
Maybe you guys have some suggestions to tweak it a little.
The enclosure is pretty well decked out with plants, although the fern at the bottom and the orchid are plastic, but it fills the area quite well hey! The ficus, umbrella and air-plants are all real, which were in his last enclosure. I haven't added his hibiscus yet, still deliberating on whether to do so.
Lighting is as before, 1 x basking lamp, 2x18w Reptisun 5.0 flouro UVB and 2x18w grow light for plants. I also plan to add a crown to the top of the enclosure to hide the lights, obviously stained the same colour as the base.
Misting is done again as before, with a pro-mist 60, still trying to work out the best position of the nozzles! Take a look at where they are and some "own experience" advice will be appreciated. I have this time, added a small aquarium heater to the bucket housing the misting water, hopefully popeye won't run as much as he used too when his misting sessions start!
I have also added a humidifier, as you can see from one of the pics, again still trying to work out the best size and shape of dish to put it in, this humidifier seems to splash alot of water about...ANY SUGGESTIONS GUYS/GALS? I do have a you beaut type for the Family, but i'm not allowed to use a $150 humidifier just for the cham...so the Boss says.
I started a thread recently pre-empting the arrival of the new enclosure, asking how people "fix their vines/furnishings to these type of enclosures", well I just removed the pvc pipes from the exoterra flexarium and installed them inside the new enclosure...look at the pics it's the black tubing everythings tied too, easy and no drilling into the frame or penetrating the screen with ties etc.
Sorry for the long post, but i'm giving you guys all the info, so as to get some good constructive critisicm, hope you like it!
Cheers
Scott.
