Chester seems sad :(

My beloved boy, Chester, i love him so much. He loves looking out the window. It feels like he really just looking at the nature feeling sad hes locked inside.
He has an outdoor enclosure for hot days, and a free roam, but he can only go on his free roam 1-2 hours a day so he still gets enough uvb from his arcadia. And we live in canada so hes only able to go outside sometimes. Vet also recommends we dont put enclosure next to window as it could get too cold at night.

I feel really sad. The second i open his door for free roam time he runs to his tree and looks out the window. It doesnt really seem like hes doing it to bask in the heat/sun because he would just stay under his heat bulb then.
Its not a husbandry thing, hes in a 2x2x4 and he has all the right heat, humidity, he has 30+ branches to climb, dubias, crickets, hornworms, superworms, beetles, and live plants. But he just wants to go look outside and it makes me feel sad for keeping him in here.

I can tell he literally people watches and just looks outside.:(

I think they like to feel vigilant/aware of their surroundings and they are adapted to do this in nature, so he’s probably drawn to that window without even realizing it. I would try to think of it from the perspective that he has a safe place to survey from with no threat of predators.

Tbh, he’s probably just looking for bugs!

Who doesn’t enjoy looking outside? It’s always changing and I think it’s instinct of all creatures (ourselves included) to be drawn to the natural world and be a bit nosy. If you’re handy, it might be a nice winter project to build him an outside enclosure for the summer. Just an idea. :)
