Hi everyone, i just wanted to share some of my observations on my panther i've had for over 8 months now. Hes almost 2 years old, never had any problems with him, the most laid back guy ive ever had.
I live in a cooler climate (canada) so for the majority of the year we are between 32-100f. I keep his cage at anywhere from 68-74f depending on the temp of the house (his terrarium is all screened no windows) so it fluctutes. ive found that it seems like he prefers the cooler temps (i find him lower on warm days) and lately hes been around 66-68 cage temp with an 80~ basking spot (that he rarely spends time in) half his cage is near the window so i know hes getting a little bit of radiating sun in through there if he really wants it.
theres 4 parts to his enclosure
80f basking
72f ambient area
68f ambient area
60f ambient area
he mostly sticks around the 68f spots
at night in the winter i can lower the temps anywhere from 70-55f, now everything ive read up until i got him was they need it warm all the time, he has proven otherwise. After he eats he absoloutely loves to bask and let all the heat digest that food, but after a time he resumes his normal routine of the cold areas.
I like to think that he is smart enough to know what he wants and i dont think its neccesary to keep him at such a high temp all the time, during the spring when i first had him it was even colder with cage temps of 60-64 at night and he seemed to love that aswell. With winter approaching im gonna be re configuring his enclosure to keep it more insulated but it got me thinking, does anyone else here have chams that like it really cold?
i should add his urates and dumps always look magnificent, almost artistic worthy, his colors are always stunning and hes never lethargic like you would expect at the colder temps.
