Cricket gut load

BTW, Cricket Crack rocks. I hope Steve never stops making it!

And Steve, keep the recipe to yourself!

I don't want to hear anymore about Plagiarism!

I'm calling my Lawyer!

Thanks Lynda, you are impeccable with your research as always.

We've removed the insect diet from Adcham.com, so - no more problems.

I am shocked to hear that certain individuals thought I was accusing them of plagiarism, and I was shocked to be attacked publicly by one person. And even more shocked by the juvenile comments that followed by some members.

The simple fact is, the Adcham insect diet was plagiarized and used for commercial gain by more than a few people over the years. And recently, one more, as well as other thefts, that I cannot help but take personally. How would you all feel if several years of work by yourself and your friends was stolen out from under you?

But not many care about this type of thing in the community any longer, because they don't need to do the pioneering work that is done for nothing more than the love of chameleons and for the hobby. Most don't give a d*mn, and this hobby needs to grow up. There are some very good chameleon keepers on this forum that I am proud to be acquainted with, and will continue to remain in contact with.

Enough of that - as I said before, you all have much more serious problems to discuss.

The sites I looked at indicated protein in the 16 to 20% range. Some also indicated quite a bit of vitamin A (like layena) in the chicken feeds.
http://poultry.purinamills.com/OURPRODUCTS/Products/Layena/default.aspx

What scares me more is the formaldehyde in some of them. If there in large enough quantities it can interfere with the protein digestion. Would it be enough to affect the protein digestion of a chameleon?
"formaldehyde can, if added in sufficient quantities, reduce proteindigestibility"
http://74.125.95.104/search?q=cache...y+feed"+AND+protein&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=21&gl=ca

"Irradiating poultry feed would kill salmonella, eliminating the need to treat poultry feed with formaldehyde"...

I still prefer using all natural gutloads for my insects.

I need to apologize to Susan for my comments earlier in the post. I was out of line and way out in left field. I have some growing up to do, and least read posts more carefully.

I agree 100% with Susan. It is horrible and disgraceful practice to steal and attempt to benefit from someone Else's work. Anyone who does so should be ashamed of themselves.

Ryan, you are gracious to apologize. Please realize that I did not say that "you" are juvenile, I said that some comments were. I did not say that "you" need to grow up, I said the hobby needs to grow up.

The insect diet has been widely used by beardie keepers and gecko keepers, whose numbers totally overshadow that of chameleon keepers.

And I thank the innocent person that asked the initial question for asking it. Keep asking questions. I am sure there are many here that will attempt to assist you.

???

this thread was asking about recipes for gutload, not plagerism. there is: 2 recipes given out. 1 isn't a recipe, more of something you can buy.

i am wondering the same question, as im only using blueberries, mango, cherios, dog food and crackers. id like something easy to make with stuff thats available everywhere, (monkey food???).

Sorry to butt in why don't people just buy one that you add water to? Theres SOO many good ones to choose from at reasonable prices, the time, effort AND money you spend making your own is just not worth it if you ask me.

i found out after a long talk with the guys at my pet store, all there crickets are pre gut loaded, and they gut load in the store. now it doesn't garuntee all the ones you got have had what they feed *which is pretty damn good stuff*. but prior to shipping they are gut loaded with carrot, and there is debate over weither or not beta carotine breaks down or not, but i still believe it helps their eyes and prevents infections.

The kind you add water to? Who makes it?

I think there are plenty of cases where making your own is worth while. When you feed off 5000 or more crickets a week because you have a lot of chameleons then you might find it is worth the effort.

Whatever gutload they got at the breeder would have worn off by the time it gets to the pet store, and its great that the pet store is gut loading, but unless you feed them all off right away, there is no benefit. You still have to gutload yourself, every day.

Practically all the gut loads for insects you mix with water and give it to them. They lap it up FAST, they love it and it's full of all the good stuff.

Kevin, you are very sweet to take the time to post this for us. Thank you. Never mind all of the grumblings, they will always occur on forums. Any hobbyist that would like a copy of the insect diet is free to email me at [email protected].
And for the moment, it still appears on the two websites that I gave permission to reproduce it.

It *is* all about the insect diet. Try putting years of work into something, only to have it plagiarized. We are attempting to reassemble a team to update Adcham.com but not many can dedicate the long, difficult hours involved to do so. It is what it is. As is this post.

Can you list some brand names or where to buy? I have not seen a gut load that you add water to, other than water crystals.

I'm in the U.K and I use a euro rep (medivet) it's called "cricket diet insect gut loading suppliment" which seems to do the trick. I also know a brand named bug grub which works well from what I have heard.

Here's the spec for mine:

fortified with 12% calcium
a vitamin level of 2500 iu/kg
vitamins, minerals and 17 types of added free form amino acids

There is also a guide at www.eurorep.co.uk

i do gut load when i get home.

i usually only buy 10 dozen at a time.

but they are shipped to the petstore with basically a beta carotine/mix gut load.
