Crickets digging there way out through my cham's wooden cage ?!?

I have a home-made enclosure for my cham, made out of pine wood; all sealed with multiple layers of varnish and with some caulking along the edges, the walls, the floor, etc. However, there is one corner on the bottom where the caulking has peeled off a bit during cleaning. Today, I saw a weird little pile of unknown matter in that very corner. I first thought it was molds or some dried skin. But it was actually a pile of tiny little wood chips, as if some creature tried to dig its way out of the cage... And all there was in that cage yesterday was the chameleon, a butterworm, and some crickets. Are crickets known to eat wood (or dig through wood)? Anyone witnessed something similar in their cage set up? I am quite puzzled...

It wouldnt surprise me, Ive had crickets chew holes in flyscreen mesh! If you provide a small bowl of food for the crickets on the floor somewhere, you will find they will gather there, especially if you provide a hidingplace, like a saran wrap core or something. This will make them easy targets for your hungy cham and less inclined to escape. :)

I've had butterworms bore through a one of those green turf matts & a plastic dish. I wouldn't be surpriesed if that guy did it as well.

"Wo! I eat wood, I knew that I wouldn't of
I eat good, I knew that I wouldn't of
So good, so good, I eat wood!

Wo! I feel good, I knew that I wouldn't of
I feel good, I knew that I would
So good, so good, 'cause I eat wood
So good, so good, 'cause I eat wood
So good, so good, 'cause I eat wood

Whooooooooooahhhhh!"....

thank you guys (and thanks for the ... song, jojackson). I guess I'll never know how this happened until it happens again (hopefully not. I'm gonna have to re-seal that corner). But I'll certainly keep my eyes open.
