Crickets from bait shops!

I was wondering what people think. Are farm raised crickets all the same? They are way cheaper at the bait shop than pet stores or mail order. I would be taking them home to gut load so is this ok? Would be the most convenient spot to get them in bulk for many people. Has anyone else tried this?

i dont see any issues as long as you feed them well before you feed them to your chams.

i dont have any bait shops around here, at least none that would carry crix. but ive seen em down the shore. if you can get em cheaper thats a huge plus. its about $25 to have me shipped to me per thousand and thats the same i could get em for from the local(ish) herp shop so its either waste $10 driving a while to pick up $25 worth of crix. or have me shipped. easy choise but i hate winter shipments. there is always an issue. i go half and half

I get my crickets from Walmart. Some stores carry them all year long.

I recommend staying away from bait shop crickets because Snake is once again correct in his assessment. Snake you da man...

Not necessarily. It depends on where the shop orders the crickets from (if they order them.) Many order from the same online dealers that we get them direct from. Try asking first.

same as i feel about it, plus even though they hardly feed or water them at pet stores..they still usually throw in a lil gutload since they carry that stuff...

i dont know if i agree, if the crickets were full of parasites and infections they would most likely die off quite quickly.
as long as you take them home and keep them proporly i would think they would be fine.
any pet store i know of dosent keep crickets any special way that makes them any better.
plus i bet they all come from one of the big cricket farms

most likley all come from one big place, lol...so it wouldnt really matter unless they just have really bad keepeing conditions on the place you go..


(its like those exo-terra incubators..there are others, but they are all identical, just different colors and labels..they all are made in the same place in shenzen china) lol

I once saw a bunch of Cup-O-Crickets in a walmart in TX. They were in the bait area. I went to check them out, thinking it could be a feeder source.
Their were at least 20 of these cups, each labeled 50cnt. NONE of them were alive.

Tennessee. They can be found in the sporting goods section.

I also went to a "well stocked" PetCo and had the same result. I rather have them bag me fresh crickets.

I just called a couple of the local bait shops around town and most seem to get their supplies from Ghans. Do you guys suppose they breed different crickets for different purpsoes? Otherwise I'm heading to the bait shop. I'm surprised I missed this since I like fishing.

No I didn't even ask that. I don't think they would probably even be willing to sell a thousand. Obviously I'm not telling them I'm buying them for purposes other than fishing. But it definitely is a good idea during those emergencys when I forget to order. I can buy theres if necessary to hold me over.

Have you checked with Terry from FeederBugs? He delivers them to my house. I buy 1000 at a time. I have been very happy with them. I only buy them at Petsmart if I run short. If you need his info PM me and I can send it to you.

Maybe the system just likes the sound of you typing - or maybe that is the system default. I opt for #2.
