My first sulcata has finally hatched(with more about to hatch). Well, I have to share some pictures.
First couple pics is the first one hatching and the third pic is the baby and the proud father.
The proud father is a young male at 85 pounds.

Enjoy,
Lance

Wow! Look how big Dad is compared to the hatchling! I have turtles/tortoises but none a big as a sulcatta.

That's really awesome Lance! And how cute they are! I've always wanted one of those. Tyler Stewart had some that were hatching during last year's Super Show in San Diego and it was so neat to be able to watch them run around with leftover shell on their backs. :p

My sulcatas are kept outside. Our winters are very mild compared to most of the country, so besides a heated enclosure for them at night, not too much else is needed to keep them happy. They do require a lot of space so they have free range of my backyard.
The male still has some growing to do. He should get to be around 150 pounds.

Yes, the babies when first hatching are very intriging to watch and totally fascinating. Yes, they get big, but are great pets as they have great personalities.

Awesome Lance!!!!! I just hatched out a couple of redfoots. I think the coolest thing I have seen hatch out is a tort. Love the pics great comparison. It is crazy how small they start out.

TORTOISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:p:D:D

Thanks, Ryan, I make that correction on daily basis.

Congrats on the sulcata babies. You So Cal guys seem to get them hatching earlier than us desert boys. I had a random early clutch laid in February that should be hatching in a few weeks... My other clutches are a good month behind that. Sulcatas are the best torts - for those that can handle the size. This is my biggest male (and my 1 year old who won't leave them alone), at about 130 pounds.

Wow! Thanks everyone for the photos! You all have some amazing animals. I would love to have a tortoise, but with our cold winters I think it would have to spend more time in than out, which isn't fair. It's 0 (32 degrees for you Americans lol) right now. Crazy. Thanks for the pics!!

Great pictures Tyler.. If I had more space, I would have more.
Thanks for all the compliments everyone.
I agree Ryan, a hatching tortoise/turtle is the coolest thing to observe. A close second would be a jackson giving birth.

I'm gonna disagree with you! When my Sternfeldi gave birth I was right there picking them off the leaves. An amazing experience I'll never forget. So, I'll give the jackson a third ;)
