I had a clutch of 80 panthers hatch fine last year did not loose one! I only had 30 this year and they are all dying before they hatch. They are now 10 months and started sweating a few weeks ago. I tried cutting some out they are fully formed but dead? now the last of the eggs are sweating and still no sign of them coming out on there own. What could be wrong? How do I save them?

any suggestions?

Any suggestions? I tried letting the eggs sweat for a week, dead. I tried cutting one out after 2 days of sweat dead. Only think I can think is that the 10 month old eggs, shells too hard or rubbery, or babies too weak?

Sorry for your babies. How long did it take for your last clutch to hatch? Maybe 10 months is too long.

Thanks for the concern

The others started at 7 months but one of the others took 8 or 9 months.
I did read somewhere that it can take up to 12 months, but that is what I think too, they got too weak maybe. I just do not know if I should try and cut out all of them now or just wait them out?

The clutch you have now, is it a retained clutch? My vet told me they were weaker. I only had one baby make it from a retained clutch from my veiled. Most of the eggs molded after a few weeks but some of the eggs went on for 8 months. Most of the eggs that made it the 8 months only had the yellow yoke in them. I have my one precious baby that I pulled put of the egg survive and she was 8 months old yesterday.

sounds about right..30 compared to 80..they normally sweat for a few days and start to emerge..i hate to do it..but maybe pull one, and see if you can help it out..sounds like good eggs, just weak clutch..hows the humidity( i keep an 80..but raise it really high for the last few days(not sure if it really does anything..but..who knows)

I know it is awful but at this point what do you have to lose by trying to help them out of the eggs? Just be careful, and good luck. Also don't be upset if it doesn't work. I lot of people have tried and not a lot have succeeded.

Well I tried to open 3 more eggs all still dead! Fully formed little babies this is awful! I will not have any more my male is too old, I wish I could have saved just one to keep his blood line alive. I may try a few more eggs in awhile

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you'll save at least one of these babies for you. I know just how precious my baby Elly is to me. I wouldn't open them all though just incase it hasn't been long enough and they are just not ready.

I know it's highly unlikely but was the clutch of 80 last year and 30 this year from the same dame? Your profile says you only have 2 chameleons, but you might not update your info that often like me. If they are from the same dame, that's a lot of strain on the dame and she probably wouldn't produce as many viable eggs she did last year.

The 80 last year was 3 different clutches! Two of those babies were not seperated soon enough and the result was this clutch of eggs( about 6 to 8 months of age). I must admit, I did not watch the humitidy as much as I did last year, just felt it would be the same, same with the temperature. I just cant stand seeing them all formed and not alive. I agree, I tried one egg that had not yet sweated today and it too was not alive but looked like the egg sack had some left. But all the ones that have sweated, from one day to one week later were also dead. Will they sweat even if they are already dead? I now wish I had kept some from last year.

I would say the substrate was less moist if anything and eggs the same size or smaller. They stayed small for almost 7 momths then grew quickly to the 10 months we are at now. Thank you all for your help, even if none make it at least I know I did all I could. should I only open the ones that have been sweating for 2 days?

The sad but true answer is it's anybody's guess. If it is what you want to do, then do it. let us know.
