Dechlorinated water?

Is it necessary to de chlorinate the water for chameleons? We have city water is that safe enough? I've been letting the water sit for 24 hours before misting them, but is it necessary?

It is for me. I don't drink it ,why would I give to my Cham? I don't even put it in my plants. ;)

I suppose they sell ReptiSafe for a reason? Good question anyways, it's good to know for sure.

If your mineral content is low, I say go for it! I use either RO water or distilled, but my tap water is sh@*! 84 cents for distilled water is cheap enough.

Chlorine dissapates when introduced to oxygen. Either letting it sit for 24 hours or using a misting system will render it safe for chameleons. I have 3 perfectly healthy chams who drink tap water. Granted, if you live somewhere with water that has unduly heavy chlorine levels you'd want to take precautions.

Thank you for the input and advice. I don't mind letting the water sit for 24 hours, just wondering cause it is room temperature water not warm.

Some municipal water utilities treat their water with chloramines. Chloramines will not dissipate like chlorine does when exposed to air. Call your water utility and ask them which they use. Chloramines can be removed with a water treatment product like ReptiSafe or one for aquariums.

But, if you use an RO filter you don't have to worry about this. I don't know if the Zero Water filters remove it (check the instructions to be sure). A couple of weeks ago I posted a link to a simple portable (no plumbing connections necessary) RO filter system that might be of interest if you are considering whether to use one or not. I'll find that post and bump it.
