Deremensis babies hatching

For those of you who remember the gravid deremensis I was was given to try to get to lay her eggs, well, long story short, the first of her 19 eggs hatched over night. I am so thrilled! Baby looks good and the other 18 eggs look like they will be hatching soon. I will try to find some more information on bringing up baby deremensis. I know that adults need cool, moist conditions and think the babies need that also. But, I need to be sure because babies are tender little things. YAYAYAYAYAYAY. I am psyched. Pictures to follow when I get more neonates.

Hey congrats. Let me know how it goes, my first clutch of deremensis eggs are due to hatch in Aug. You can pave the way for me.:D:D Don't forget the pictures.

Good luck to you too. Any information you have found out on raising the neonates is welcome.

That is exactly how the one looks. I will take pics when I have several to show. I am going to put them in a plastic bin with a screen top. I have some that are about 6" tall and 8x10. I will be using plastic plants at first to hold in the moisture and may even have a small fan set up along side, not blowing into the bin, but along side just to create some air movement. The adults like moisture and cool temps, so I figure the babies would too. I will not use a UVB bulb for several weeks, then use an old bulb that has an output of under 10. I will put them outside in the early evening for an hour if I feel the need.

Anyone who has raised these little ones see anything wrong with doing that? I have my fruit flies all ready to go.

Why?!?! I was there yesterday! I'm dying to see them lol!
Congrats! You can post pictures on my Facebook or email them to me as I can't check the forum that often. Good luck :) Can't wait to see them!

BTW- when I come back, I'm coming over to help :)

The information I have been reading says they live close to the forest floor and don't require uvb, or very little as adults. So, I figure that the babies, who hide among leaves, really don't need any for the first several months of life. However, since there is some filtered sunlight that hits the forest floor, I thought I would use a bulb with under 10 uvb. Now you know my thinking. If If I could find some good solid evidence to counter my plan, I would change it.

Not a big fan of the tubs. That is going to cut down on your circulation considerably. Especially one that shallow. I have raised 2 clutches sucessfully with using small 16 inch high screen cages and I did use 5.0 strip light and had the cage heavily planted and lots of moisture and cool temps. I used pothos that I could vine over the top to create filtered lighting.

BocaJan, you may want a bigger container, about the size of a 10 gallon aquarium and that will house 6-10 easily. Plastic plants are fine and I have used new 5.0 bulbs with these babies with no problem, just about an inch above the lid. They will do fine with this if you have taller housing than you've mentioned. DO NOT put them outside at all, even in the evening. I have made mistakes with baby deremensis with outdoors and just the slightest hint of sunlight and heat can have very bad results. Indoors with UVB tubes is a better way to go. Lots of daily mistings and lots and lots of fruit flies. In a month or two you may even move up to small houseflies. Best of luck with these little blue ones! And you will gte a kick out of them sleeping side by side, if your's do what I've seen in my experiences.

Unfortunately, I only have a 12X12X12, but it will be a start until I get a screened cage modified for the little ones.

Lizardlover will be posting pics since he has a great camera and was visiting the babies today. Stay tuned everyone, there are now a bunch of neonates snug as a bug in a rug in my little terrarium. Bigger Exoterra to be planted tomorrow for the rest of the little ones as they hatch.
