Deremensis hatching!

This has been quite the ordeal for me with this hatching.
I bred a couple of wild caught deremensis a while back and everyone I have talked to said they rarely breed in captivity and conditions have to be spot on. I felt good that I accomplished this as I had never bred this species before. I had several deremensis years ago. After about 4 months the female became restless so I set things up for the egg laying. She had complete privacy and didn't eat for days. I found her digging and left her alone other than watering. I found her expired at the bottom of the pot after her in the pot for about 14 hours. She hadn't been dead long. I extracted the eggs and there were 11 large eggs. I set them up in vermiculite at 74 degrees in my Parsonii room which is very humid. The eggs seemed soft compared to panther eggs. My first thought is they are not viable, but I keep them anyway.
14 weeks later I have my first one out and 3 more halfway out. These guys take their time coming out of the eggs like the sloths they are. Anyway check em out!

Congratulations!!! If Ed ever comes back from Asia I would recommend chatting Deremensis breeding. From about 1994 through 1998 he bred true captive bred Deremensis for if my recollection is accurate for about two generations (Ed and Bruce both co wrote the CIN article about breeding Deremensis). They are an great species and your babies look great!

Great. I had the same exact experience with my female also and I lost her the exact same way. I extracted 18 eggs and all were infertile (shrived and molded after 3 weeks). I am glad you had better luck.

Congratz!!

That is good news Chuck! The babies look unique, not like all the run of the mill babies I see all time.

That's fantastic, Chuck! So sorry to hear about your female. This is one species I definitely would love to try. Wow = only 14 weeks?? Good luck to you and the rest of the babies!!

Congrats! I love the way they are so patterned as babies...and the color being more blue than many species at "birth"!

Deremensis have a well-deserved reputation for being difficult when it comes to laying eggs.

Thanks Chris and Laurie. Here is one after a couple of days. Still waiting on the one.
