I just don't see why anyone would do such a thing. If you didn't like those beautiful animals for whatever reason (just ignore them), don't kill(torture) them. That's messed up.

Dean, it has nothing to do with ignorance - it's stupidity. Ignorance means they don't know any better. Anyone who does something like this doesn't get the benefit of pleading ignorance. What we're talking about here are, what I like to call, s**mbags. Not too offensive a word, generally acceptable to say in public, but it conveys the same message that other, 4-letter rooted words does.

I would start looking for a young male and his friends
Most likely poor lacking education and out of work
Or working -but at a low wage menial job.
They would also be local to the area and had been to the site before.

what would cause the greatest harm and loss to the restoration project.

I see the motivation as someone being spiteful hate that the "dumb lizards"
that get more attention and money than what they do from the rich tourists.
The simple fact that they were stomped, stabbed and torn apart while still alive
tells much about the type of anger the perp has for himself and others.
(blood smeared on the walls of the enclosure...)

IF the local cops are motivated... the perp(s) will get caught
If it's the types that I imagine the are... they'll be talking to their friends
or the friends already involved will talk among themselves.
Someone will turn them in for the reward (that's building over 10,000 £ GBP / $20K USD right now).

I didn't read all those details. That definatly rules out ignorance as the main cause. It goes beyond them being s**mbags. That's just vile. Cruelty to animals is bad enough, but doing to to hurt a person that cares for them is far worse.

Just when you think people can't get any worse you read something like this. I agree this is beyond ignorance,it's cowardly. If they had a problem with a person at the center they were too cowardly to take them on so they pick on defenseless animals. Unbelieveable! Reminds me of the attack on the big sulcata tortoise that someone cut up and threw against the wall. And that was after climbing a 6 ft wall to get to him. The good new about that was the tortoise survived no thanks to the culprit and after months of surgeries and pain, and they caught the guy. I think people like these are the next serial killers, once they get brave enough. But i see it all the time with the tortoise rescue. So many people don't think of reptiles as having feelings or being important. Maybe one day the human race will grow up and realize that we are not the only important things in this world.

this is so sad...I hope that the scumbags that did this will get theirs. Who the hell could do something to such beautiful creatures. I think the sadest thing about this is the pictures the provided they look so strong and mighty. Its a shame oeiple could sink so low into doing such a thing.

What the HELL is wrong with people?? I hope the people who did this receive much suffering in their lives!! There is generally NO reason to kill any animal except in extreme circumstances such as disease, infestation or to put them out of their misery.
