Did the petstore B.S. me on my Jackson Chameleons age??

:confused::mad:
I have a question for anyone that can help me. Last week I got a pair of Jax, 1M/1F. I really wanted the female he had in a cage on display, but he said he was keeping that one. Anyway, I asked him how old both of them were, he stated that she had already had given birth to 13 babies, I asked him again how old she was, he said, "6 months". He stated they were both 6 months, never said they were related or unrelated. That doesn't sit well with me, I think he was B.S.ing me?? If a Jax is pregnant from anywhere from 5-9 months, how could she have given birth to 13 babies?? She was pregnant at what, 1 month!!?? He also siad that she wouldn't be having babies again until this same time next year? Does anyone have any input on this. Thank you in advance. Michelle

Um, I'm a bit confused and possibly everyone involved was too.

Did the seller mean that the female on displaywas the one that had given birth to the 13 young?

Did he also tell you that your pair of jax were 6 months old?

Did he say that all three jax were from the same clutch? Doesn't sound like it, and unless he saw the birth there's no way to prove anything.

Maybe the confusion lies here. The age of the display female may be totally different than your female (6 months).

Unless he has proof that the display female was captive bred (unlikely!) or that he raised it from a baby himself, there's no real way to know her actual age once she reaches adulthood. She could be a year or so and she could bear young. Most likely she arrived from some importer or wholesaler gravid and she dropped her young once he got her. Whether she was related to any other cham in the store is next to impossible to know unless he can show proof of being captive born or bred.

Your pair of jax could certainly be 6 months old if they are NOT full grown at this time. Pics would help!

Yes you have been given a load of that famous stuff - pure crap. A female gestation averages 6 - 7 months. The guy who sold them has a serious math issue, or most likely he said what ever he thought it took to get you to buy them. Sorry. post some pictures if you want better info on their ages.

Well, the female that I wanted in the cage, he didn't tell me her age, but finally disclosed that the one "not for sale was gravid,(that's why he didn't want to sell her. He never offered to tell me how old my pair I was purchasing was. At first he stated the one I was buying had already had 13 babies, then I asked him how old she was he hesitated and then said 6 months. I asked how old the male was he said, "they are both 6 months". I never thought to ask if they were from the same clutch (shame on me). Then I asked him how long females are pregnant for he said 5-9 months. Then I started thinking about it, (a little too late). I will post some pics in a few minutes of both. I asked him if they were both the same age, and why was she so much bigger, he stated they grow at different rates and he would become much bigger than her.

they are most likely wc. if they were cb you would have paid at least double maybe even triple what wc's sell for. so i wouldnt worry about them being related. Even if they were ch i wouldnt worry. If you paid less than 100 each then I know they were wc's.

Hey I realize I'm a little late on posting about this but I believe that both animals are over a year old. Granted I don't have any experience with Jackson's or have done a whole, whole lot of research on them, but hear me out. I do have a Veiled that I purchased last summer in late June, that was labeled as a 2 month old. So that would put him at close to a year old. I have come to find out, and this is a fact, that Veiled's grow at much higher rates than just about every chameleon species, maybe the fastest of all. Right now he is around 7" snout to vent and maybe a little more. So if you're Jackson's are 6 3/4" and 8 3/4" then that would lead me to believe that they are at least a year old and possibly more.

Whoops! I just realized that the measurements included tail lenght :eek:. Sorry. Could you tell us a snout to vent length on both of them? That may help out a little more, but with seeing the last pic of your male compared to your hand, and that he is only 8 3/4" including his tail, my guess is most likely inaccurate.

My pair was captive bred and I paid $100USD for the pair. thats 50 each
