Disappointing Update

I am sorry to report that Mrs. cristatus is no longer with us.
We (our vet and myself) did what we could but it seems the combination of being imported and gravid proved too much for her.
She was a fighter though. Unbelievable the resilience of this animal.
After laying she no longer had any interest in food and started to become blotchy (black and yellow) which I knew to be a very bad sign.
My hope is for the eggs and the handful of other keepers who are experiencing some successes.
Perhaps in the not too distant future we can trade some bloodlines and start to develop a captive bred population and her efforts to get her eggs laid before succumbing to death will not have been in vain.
I am certain that she was a vital and healthy animal in her natural environment and I will work toward this goal so that we may be able to leave more of the wild population where they are at.
I am sad to have lost her, but not entirely surprised.
Again, sorry to have to post this news.

Sorry to hear that Brad. I was so hoping for you that she was going to pull through. It's so hard with the WC's. I have my fingers crossed that those eggs turn out to be a total success for you. Is the male still doing well?

Brad I am so sorry you lost her, I know you were very hopeful. Now you have to move on and put your hopes on the eggs. Their is nothing that could be done you didn't do. We will all be hoping for the eggs with you.

We are sorry for your loss, Brad, and I have been there myself, so I share your sentiment. Good luck with those eggs and with Mr. Cristatus.

Brad, I am so bummed to read this. :( Same thing happened with my WC carpet and hopefully, I will get her ten babies to hatch. You know it is part of life, even though it sucks.

Sorry to here this man:( sorry for your loss, keep your chin up dude, you did all you could, and as you say you have the eggs ticking over,so this could result in a positive ending, good luck with the male and the eggs:D

Sorry to hear the news, sounds like you were doing everything you could.
The sad part is no one learns anything unless you lose some from time to time. Put me down for a couple when they hatch out. Good luck!

Hey, Brad.

Sorry to hear about your misforutne, but hopefully (as you said) her offspring will help form a better captive breeding lineage and you can swap some genetics with other keepers for future endeavors :). After you posted your initial photo's when you got them it really interested me in the species so I'll be keeping an eye on how they turn out :)

Hopefully in about a year I will be in a bigger house and may be able to set up a suitable environment for them. At the moment I believe that I am unable to give them what they would need.

So sorry to hear about your loss. Hopefully the eggs will hatch and her genes will continue on. It happens too often with WC's...no telling how old they are when they arrive here.
