I am sorry to report that Mrs. cristatus is no longer with us.
We (our vet and myself) did what we could but it seems the combination of being imported and gravid proved too much for her.
She was a fighter though. Unbelievable the resilience of this animal.
After laying she no longer had any interest in food and started to become blotchy (black and yellow) which I knew to be a very bad sign.
My hope is for the eggs and the handful of other keepers who are experiencing some successes.
Perhaps in the not too distant future we can trade some bloodlines and start to develop a captive bred population and her efforts to get her eggs laid before succumbing to death will not have been in vain.
I am certain that she was a vital and healthy animal in her natural environment and I will work toward this goal so that we may be able to leave more of the wild population where they are at.
I am sad to have lost her, but not entirely surprised.
Again, sorry to have to post this news.
