No, the top is completely open no different than when you don’t have the hood on. It’s just a surround with a few pieces of wood across it to support and elevate the lights. I use hybrid cages anyway. So all of my cages have computer fans on top, which also helps with airflow. But if you have an entirely screened cage. This is no different than it was before you put the hood on
